My knowledge of share-dealing is slightly less that what i know about brain surgery so this whole Standard Life deal has me baffled. I have 2636 shares in Standard Life and as far as I can make out they are worth just over £11k, once all is finalized I will get approx £1924 but my shares will be diluted to 2148 in total and will be worth just over £9k. If I am correct in the way I have worked this out I have gained nothing from the sale of the Canadian arm?? or have I got it all wrong. I was thinking about selling all my shares anyway and cant for the life of me see why I should hold on till after the b/c option. can someone tell me if I have this all wrong?

Re: Fall in SP I think the reason the share price fell back towards the end of last week was some selling into the rise of the previous week. New buyers of the shares are exercising caution because of the low milk price reducing demand for compound feeds, cutbacks in oil industry spend affecting Bendalls, a mildish winter and the low oil price not helping the fuel side etc etc. Overall it is a fairly tough background for Carr's and therefore they will be doing well to show any earnings progression in the current year. With Carr's you just have to accept that the external environment isn't always going to be helpful but over the long-term it should still grow and deliver rewards for shareholders. There is of course another reason why the shares may have fallen recently and that is the share split. Shareholders received their new share certificates at about the same time as the post-Christmas credit card bills. I think some shareholders probably have used it as an opportunity to exit.

Wood Group Mustang Wood Group Mustang has just been awarded a massive 5 year Offshore PMC contract in Saudi Arabia that really puts the company in a prime position in the field of engineering. It is clear that even with the drop in oil price the group still manage to offer growth potential and I believe this share will soon be back to the 730p level it reached briefly after the recent excellent trading statement.I hope I can then continue my trading on the highs and lows around this level and really regret not selling last week where I was greedy and thought the price would climb even higher than it did.

CFU Dunmovin 22 Feb 2015

Marketing on Social Media Fellow CFU Stock HoldersIt's been a while since I last commented here, however congrats to CFU for continued progress in the area of further improving the product, however we have yet to hear any significant updates around either the “Virtual Power Stations” or the “Integrated Combined heat and power units” for some time. We all trust that the Trial Units are out there – clocking up the hours. How are they going? or are the various companies waiting for CFU to runout of money and go into receivership so they can get the IP for next to nothing???? We all hope this does not turn out to be true! Anyway – Marketing……never seemed to be a strong point within CFU so how about putting lots of “Good News” stories together and pushing them out through the various social media channels and letting us share them for you? In my view it is time more people knew about CFU – what is clear is that outside a few European countries, Governments continue to support existing power companies and not on on supporting and encouraging innovation, which will in turn create new jobs and will in the long run generate more revenue for Governments. In my opinion – the speed of developing Distributed Power generation facilities will be driven by the power of the people, and not by existing providers. So let’s get the good stories out there in Social media and let us share these and get the message out there. Also – any update on activities in Australia, where there are and continues to be a significant number of BlueGen units operating? Given that CFU was originally spun out of The Australian Govt funded CSIRO area, and that there has been between zero and no support for CFU for some years from the various governments in that country, plus the growing acceptance that the climate is changing and being more efficient at generating and using energy is a good thing - any update from there? In summary – let us help you by giving us some good news stories to share on Social and other Media outlets. We need to spread the good word!!! Cheers

Re: EXPECT A GREAT RNS ON MONDAY!! No inside information Mr Reilly, just a thorough research, and current M/C compared with potential. A no brainer for me, but lets wait and see what Monday brings.

Re: Investec again "I am not sure harking about the pension liabilities is a huge issue as long as interest rates remain low and money is cheap"I think this is where the problem lies. Bond yields are so low and getting lower which is the largest constituent to the pension incomes. The deficits are growing because of this issue.BT's pension fund deficit grew to £3.1bn from £1.9Bn at the end of 2013.Games - BAE is not alone -- most of the large company defined pensions schemes have locked in deficits because of the high bond exposure and it keeps growing.

The forgotten man We are ten or so days away from starting the most important drilling campaign the Falklands will see this decade.I had fully expected Borders to be participating but it seems not so.They can sit back and see what FOGL/Noble find. Anything found in the southern basin that is commercial quantities of black oil will see Borders share price soar."No love in the lab" for Bordes and it looks like they are taking a very passive strategy. There's still time for Howard to resurrect the "Pizza Deal", maybe 7" rather than the original 12". Let's see.

Re: Who has lost their nerve? Nope still here and no limit orders although its tempting to try to sell at the very recent highs of 1.60ish. Im pleasantly surprised its this high. Thought it would fall back to £1.40ish after WMH debacle. Looking forward to our dividend announcement. I reckon its a 4.5¢ final dividend and a 7 - 8¢ special on top. Heres hoping im not wrong !

Re: sold out and signed off " Does anyone else follow any pref shares that might be worth a look with respect to locking in a decent income. " ---------- ---- I don't follow preference shares, but that's mainly because I don't know much, if anything, about them. Please feel free to educate me! However, I have the New City High Yield investment trust on my watchlist: [link] and [link] ...I haven't invested for the above same reason = need to learn more (about preference shares, bonds, and investment trusts!) New City... holds preference shares and corporate bonds, etc. I keep thinking I need something like this to balance my portfolio, rather than holding pure equities and cash. Comments, thoughts appreciated.

Recommended in Money Obs Feb 2015 again Good to see this one recommended again especially for dividend seekers in the Feb edition of Money Observer ( Trust supplement). Hopefully it will gain more popularity especially as its mainly Canadian shares and therefore stable, secure and rewarding,
