My LLOY share buys & leveraged long positions collated Bought a 5th tranche at 52.91. Always a premeditated consideration if we saw returns to 52+. This reduces my average considerably & adds to an already decent dividend in April, followed by now quarterly payments. They all count. Though I feel that the general sell-off is panic-driven & may be overdone, despite growing Covid-19 fears, that’s not to say that things won’t get worse & further reduce values globally. Conceivably, the impact of this virus may plunge the global economy into recession. In that sense, LLOY’s with its UK focus shouldn’t be more adversely affected than most stocks. This purchase obviously also not for a quick profit. It’ll be reviewed when it returns to levels of over 60p, maybe slightly lower. - GLA.

LLOYDS is going to FLY skiking37: Everything is oversold due to coronavirus in Europe (Italy). This could trigger the correction that people have been predicting for about 3 years Yes, indeed so. We cannot really predict how much worse the coronavirus will get. Mostly on gut instinct though I feel that after such rapid declines, there might be a little recovery… Impossible to predict though. LLOYDS is going to FLY Quite some bloodbath today. LLOY does actually look oversold on both 10 minute and Daily chart. Do not like the fragile support levels though. BARC also looks oversold, dropping by even more than HSBA & LLOY. GL soi

LLOYDS is going to FLY Hi Again @J_Westlock, Well in respect if your various points I would offer the following comments:- Which is better having Microsoft working on any known vulnerabilities and issuing urgent updates when appropriate or having an unknown (and likely increasing) set of vulnerabilities with no one working on them ?. There are risks on any system if you click on a bad link or visit a malware affected web site but your internet security software is your only defence against those risks. That’s why you need the very best security software that you can get and update it frequently. A VPN does not provide any protection against a keylogger. It’s outgoing messages will still get delivered to their destination just as all other messages are. What a VPN provides is privacy in that it obscures your IP address (or allows you to pretend you are somewhere you aren’t) and protection against WiFi monitoring tools that are only really a problem on public WiFi networks. Keeping data in the cloud can be a problem – but generally isn’t if you don’t store any personally sensitive or financial information there. Backups might be able to restore a corrupt or infected system to a known good state but will do nothing to mitigate any damage caused while malware was present. Having a WiFi connection to your computer is a security risk in it own right. No WiFi network can ever be considered totally immune to hacking. I counter this by blocking all devices connected via WiFi from accessing my computers using my firewall. My mobile devices can use the internet just can’t talk to my PCs. Same goes for visitors, wanted and unwanted. This stops things like iTunes WiFi sync from working but I’m quite happy to plug in a wire to do that. Of everything you’ve said I think switching to a Unix district ASAP is your best approach, if you aren’t going to upgrade to Windows 10. As time goes by your Windows 7 situation will just grow progressively worse and present unknowable risks to your security, in spite of your precautions. Take care out there !. Well all markets getting thoroughly thumped by the virus, US Futures down ~1.8%. FTSE and STOXX 50 similar or slightly worse. Far East markets down big too, Korea nearly 4% - hope your out of IKOR !. Clearly I should have stayed out of the Far East after I sold all my holdings there previously, in truth I only went partially back in when China looked to have stabilised. Will take a view on whether to sell out of those 2 holdings this morning as I can only see the situation getting worse in the near future and there should be an opportunity to buyback in lower. LLOYDS is going to FLY Yes JPM will not mess about, been in the planning stages for quite some time. Massive market cap and large profits, more than 2 trillion AUM. "JPMorgan has lined up a former senior City regulator to lead its efforts to launch a digital bank in the UK as it becomes the latest large US lender to attempt to force its way into the crowded British market. Clive Adamson, former head of supervision at the Financial Conduct Authority, has been asked to chair the new business which aims to open later this year, according to two people briefed on the bank’s plans. Mr Adamson has already held several non-executive roles at JPMorgan since leaving the regulator in 2015, including chairing its international business between 2016 and 2019. He is currently a non-executive director at JPMorgan Securities PLC, one of its main European legal entities…" [link] The LLOY donkey is going to take another kicking. ATB soi

Lots of new virus cases in South Korea I’m reading today, guessing that wont be good for Asian markets or indeed markets in general… First restrictions placed in Europe also, in Italy. LLOYDS is going to FLY PrefInvestor1: Why take the risk ? I’m afraid that using Win 10 or keeping up to date with MS updates does not remove that risk in any way so I’m taking no undue risk. The op system itself is at risk if you download (by accident or not) something malicious. In fact, the more recent releases of Windows 10 have proven to have more vulnerabilities that they’ve had to issue fixes for… so you have a balance between new versions having issues and vulnerabilities because they are new versus tried and tested, stable versions. Either way, they can still be exposed if you do something stupid. I use a firewall and also separately use Norton 360, don’t use the cloud for anything (which to me is a good way to expose your data to anyone), always have a VPN switched on so comms are encrypted and my wife is off on the PC if I’m not using it (not that one helps much).

LLOYDS is going to FLY J_Westlock: I don’t download anything much from the internet, have up to date virus checkers nor do anything that exposes my home network unduly outside… plus I have plenty of backups. If it came to the worst then it would only hasten my move to a Linux distro. How good is your firewall ?. And don’t just rely on your router or the windows firewall. I would see the worst case scenario being that a malicious actor uses an operating system vulnerability to install a keylogger on your PC without your knowledge. That this operates on your PC for some eluding your virus checkers while sending data back “home” (again a firewall issue). You continue trading thinking everything is fine and the keylogger captures your brokers login credentials. The malicious actor then uses these to access your bank account details held on your brokers accounts and then starts to attempt withdrawing money… You will likely know nothing until your bank balance starts falling… Why take the risk ? LLOYDS is going to FLY PrefInvestor1: But by not upgrading your PC it will become increasingly vulnerable to any new security issues, for which there will be no Microsoft patches. Yes agreed although it is also a marketing ploy to get people to move to a place where they make more money. I don’t download anything much from the internet, have up to date virus checkers nor do anything that exposes my home network unduly outside… plus I have plenty of backups. If it came to the worst then it wound only hasten my move to a Linux distro.

PrefInvestor1 23 Feb 2020

LLOYDS is going to FLY J_Westlock: I have no intention of upgrading to Win 10 and will remain on Win 7 until apps stop working over coming years. Hi @J_Westlock, Well upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 would have been free. Maybe you don’t like Windows 10 though, many people. don’t. But by not upgrading your PC it will become increasingly vulnerable to any new security issues, for which there will be no Microsoft patches. Same goes for Office 2010 when that goes out of support, in October 2020 I think. Your choice obviously, I wouldn’t do it. Well unsurprisingly US Futures have taken a 1-1.5% dive with the new virus numbers and the FTSE and STOXX 50 are down about the same. Suspect the Far East will be at least as bad when they open later. Could be a rough day tomorrow. ATB Pref
