iPhone launch & IMG This from Reuters:Seven stocks to watch during the iPhone launchIMAGINATION TECHNOLOGIESImagination Technologies Group PLC (IMG.L) used to supply the primary technology for the graphics processors in the iPhone, which helps games and movies look better without draining the battery. In June, Imagination put itself up for sale after Apple earlier told Imagination that it no longer needed its technology and would produce its own.On stage tomorrow, Apple is expected to announce its newest computing chip for the iPhone, the A11. If Apple discloses graphics capabilities that are hugely different from what Imagination’s designs are known to be capable of, it will be a hint that Apple has already ceased tapping Imagination’s intellectual property.Full article:[link]

When IMG gets taken over in the coming days/weeks If a game of “bidding” does emerge outside the current noise emanating from Canyon Bridge, then I for one will be greatly surprised, if it takes hold. I also doubt that other suitors will appear with millions to make a worthwhile bid against Apple’s entrenched position.Remember, the wife’s name does not have to be registered on the Title Deed, to protect 50% of its value, especially if she has done much to influence, control and finance the bed and breakfast business carried out in the extensions. What about the pre-nuptial? Hub says we know all the players! Well name them, and which one will want to disturb (or be disturbed by) the Apple Model based upon “a diminishing pay as you go” principle enforced by increasing volumes, strict on-site controls and an ever present threat of taking away the accountBetter stay with what you’ve got! Sign a Licence with IMG! Spend your millions on the current start-ups for the talent and new technology about to explode, or even hived off from IMG! If need be, sign up another 25 engineers, it’s cheaper! Why get involved with implied difficulties and conundrums coupled with what could be unnecessary messy litigation! Comparably speaking, Apple’s investment in IMG was a pittance, but it did add a note of respectability and voting rights. No wonder IMG has made losses and never paid a dividend in remaining competitive within the confines of the royalty. No wonder they bought MIPS in an attempt to get from underneath this umbrella.A corporate example of minimum wage but not a living wage! The recent “perfidy” in taking off with the 25 engineers from IMG and giving 2 years notice was most likely due to a “new broom appointment at Apple” seeking glory and adding further fear to existing and new suppliers alike. Of course, Trump’s demand to return business to the USA and likely tax reforms on remittances would have been more than welcomed, as a further consideration.“Of course Tim's aware of it.Question is.... what's he going to do about it?”Nothing much, he’s got at least twelve months to test the wind and act accordingly, when it suits him with a bark or a growl !.

Re: Apple X product data breach " Apple chief Tim Cook has publicly discussed his desire to protect Apple's secrets" END.I wonder... Is Tim aware that he's about to lose a vital part of his Apple phone IP to the chinese when IMG gets taken over in the coming days/weeks.Of course he's aware of it.Question is.... what's he going to do about it?HUB

When was IMG ever simple? So don’t sell or re-mortgage the house yet, unless you truly are a punter, like our past friend. Apple have long “owned” IMG, does so now, and will no doubt do so, more publicly, when it suits them!In my view, they began to own IMG, when they started to become a major account with the power to direct the development of the GPU with an “imbedded” team of engineers delegated by HY to respond to their requirements and the potential business involved. Now they reside in the USA!Other licensees provided additional market research and product feedback.Their lawyers no doubt “instilled” at sometime all the “exclusive” legal jargon to protect Apple’s interests in terms of future co-operation and developments in their Licence Agreement. Particularly, with regards to IMG going out of business, failure to supply all or part, patent rights etc.The stakes through the success enjoyed from IMG’s ingenuity were too high to do otherwise. In effect, they out-sourced all the problems of running a business, such as IMG with its 1,000 engineers, and “stretched” it into a stable geographical and intellectual location. The costs of manufacturing and assembly (for the main IMG product they required) were taken to other multi-source centres in China and elsewhere. They, in turn, competed for such work in financing the high cost automated equipment aided through local subsidies and low-cost labour. India next! And a multi-billion ever generating dollar reserve was created!T42

Apple loses its imagination to the China? TECHNO FOXTim Cook already under huge pressure for some new big thing from Apple, so they need this headline on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone, likeApple loses its imagination to the Chinese?

techno foxx 08 Sep 2017

high stakes poker game is about to start TECHNO FOX Apple can play as many games as it wants, however the technology fundamentals have not changed the future of mobile graphics is hardware based GPU ray tracing technology AR VR and MR have now made this a certainty, and the fact NVIDIA is now following IMG TBR GPU chipset tech proves IMG had been on the right path all along and in this area still has a massive lead over other OEM's in this area.so as far as I am concerned nothing has changed, and for the same reason Apple still holds 8% of IMG, Apple knows they cant allow this patented technology to fall in to the hands of the Chinese linked fund.Chinese will use IMG GPU technology IP as a shield against Apple in court to flood the US with cheap Apple IPhone copies, Apple stopped Samsung via the court room, however if china gets its hands on this patented IP then it opens the door for Chinese OEM's to put a foot in to Apple US market share with much cheaper IPhone copies.this has become a very high stakes poker game with so much now at stake.

Re: Canyon Bridge ready for bid! Hi Dave,It has been a while and I do remember you well from the early days (I bought my first batch in the low 50's).I sold out a few years back and did well - ARM Holdings ditto.I've not followed IMG for a while but simply liked the 'for sale' sign and thought I would get a slice of the IMG real estate again before selling it on to a new owner.I still find it hard to believe that a company like Apple with billions and billions in cash piles does not simply take IMG off the market and guarantee the safety of the IP.In my experience, the first bid is not the last and I fancy the rest of them (we know the names) will come out with offers once the ball is rolling. So I don't agree that IMG are in a weak position. I think they know an auction or bid process is the best way to keep the competitors feeling less than assured.I think 220p would be a decent mid point but in bidding war... anything can happen and remember, it's not so much about IMG's ££££ worth as some of these companies potentially involved have tens of billions. It's how much the IP is worth in terms of being in a competitors hands??In this mad mad tech world... valuations are often pie in sky stuff. So let the games commence and lets see what the competitors are willing to do once Canon show their hand.Getting rid of MIPS certainly opens up the game but I imagine there are accounting ways of managing this whoever gets involved.HUB

Re: Canyon Bridge ready for bid! well said DS - the voice of reason! I cant understand the speculation re Apple-if they had any interest they have had numerous opportunities to acquire IMG over the last few years and its clear they have no strategic interest in IMG whatsoever. Apple only have one proper competitor ie Samsung and as long as there is no IMG involvement with them then Apple wont give a toss what happensI am hoping for a buy out around £1.90 as Liberium have suggested and if so that will be a good premium to the current sp and i for one will be out as soon as I can hit the sell button!

Re: Canyon Bridge ready for bid! Sorry Hub290p is delusional IMHO , 220p is I think a bridge way too far as well. The acquisitor is in the driving seat here not the company being acquired, especially if it's a piecemeal deal.I sold ALL my holding the day Apple announced its perfidy. I didn't even look at the SP till last week, I decided that at about 137p it was worth a speculative punt especially after the Canyon Bridge interest was announced, some quick research on Canyon and understanding the proposition I decided on a punt buy of 20000.I don't believe there is a cat in hell's chance of Trump going against CFIUS advice and OK'ing Canyon's takeover of Lattice SemiThat leaves Canyon with $1.3billion burning in their pockets.I contest that Trump or the US regulators can influence a potential acquisition of IMG - it's the MIPS division that could be contested , but it's UK owned, it could go down to IMG closing down its US MIPS operation? , it's the IP they will be after.Either way I agree that the end of next week/ the week after is the time when an offer will either be made or not made. Canyon have had more than enough time to do their due diligence and also see where they stand with CFIUS I was in love with this stock, but divorce process was painful and not helped by HY making terrible decision , after terrible decision, I remember you and many other Imagineers with fondness, but believe if you/me are offered 200p it would be akin to a miracle. I think the present management are keen to abandon ship and move on as well, we shall see.Fingers crossed and hoping when an offer is made, it's way above my estimate , closer to yours, but I for one will exit without waiting for a potential counter-offerBest of luck
