Re: stingray I would suspect that the reason why consolidation attracts negative speculation is that it usually accompanies additional share issue ie dilution.Condor did a name change and consolidation back in 2012 and a spectacular upwards trajectory followed.Debt free and sitting on a pile of cash and with the near term prospect of positive cash flow, marks Emed out from the crowd: Glencore, Traf. and all those unfunded minnows.C

Re: share price I also think sentiment is a bit more positive following Alberto's recent Minesite presentation. Worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Confirmed Production at 5 mtpa not too far away and by then we will be profit making. Think that has slightly encouraged some to keep their holdings rather than sell and results in a gentle upward pressure on the SP.

Re: share price "Does anyone have any insights into why the price would be rising into a consolidation? "StingrayVolumes are still very low but it may be the name change rather than the consolidation.Pure speculation on my part but if EMED was an explorer and ATALAYA is to be seen as a producer what better time to announce some positive news, like we are now producing commercial grades of copper. If you want to show that it isn't just Marathon to Snickers, a significant piece of news would underline the fact.

Re: share price Every time I go thought it, I always think that I should have sold up before and brought back after. But you never know when the resource update or production news will come. Think I will hedge my bets and just sell up half sometime in the next week. I have quite a lot (for me) so buying back will be a bit expensive if I need to get back in quickly.anyway thanks for your thoughts.S

Re: share price I bought a fair few shares toward the end of last week which caused a significant bump in volume compared to recent trading. This seemed to prompt a firmer price on Friday. Plus we have slightly better news on copper price generally. But chances are volumes will drop and price will drift back for a bit…

share price Does anyone have any insights into why the price would be rising into a consolidation? Just seems strange to me, I have never been through a consolidation that hasn't resulted in a drop in share price before it recovers again a week later. so unless I have just been unlucky in the 5 or so I have been involved in. so assuming my experience is the norm why would people be buying now? or is it just the parties trying to hold down the price have just stopped selling?S

Copper mine spending to fall [link] Mine Spending Seen Sinking Below Financial-Crisis LevelsJoe DeauxOctober 14, 2015 — 120 AM BSTMining investment next year will tumble to the lowest level since before the global financial crisis, giving some vindication to long-term copper bulls. The amount companies spend to expand mining projects next year will fall to $11.1 billion, the lowest since 2007, from a high of $33.7 billion in 2012, according to data from Citigroup Inc. Such investment had climbed 15-fold in the 10 years leading up to the record, as demand from China surged and producers encouraged by rising prices expanded output. This year, so-called expansion capital expenditureswill be down about 50 percent from the 2012 high.Copper prices slumped for five straight quarters though September, the longest streak since 1996, as slowing economic growth in China fueled concern that production would exceed demand. With output cuts announced by Glencore Plc, Freeport-McMoRan Inc. and other producers signaling tighter supplies, the metal has posted two straight weekly gains for the first time in more than three months. In late August, Phoenix-based Freeport announced plans to cut about 10 percent of its staff and contractors at U.S. mining operations, while Glencore has said it will close copper mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia that account for about 2 percent of global supply.Citigroup forecasts prices will average $5,550 a metric ton in the fourth quarter, up from a closing price of $5,273 on Tuesday, “with a more constructive outlook for next year,” the bank said in a report Oct. 13.

China copper imports September I posted over a week ago about how China had been drawing on copper from unrecorded bonded warehouses and that this gives a misleading official figures for demand.Today China has published the import figures for September and they are up 31% month on month[link] 1-China copper imports surge a third in September* Imports up 31.4 pct at 460,000 tonnes vs 350,000 tonnes in Aug* Price ratios between LME and Shanghai favour importsPolly YamHONG KONG, Oct 13 (Reuters) - China's monthly copper imports surged a third in September, hitting a 20-month high after staying flat in the previous three months, as price differentials favoured spot purchases and some shipments arrived ahead of the week-long Oct. 1 holiday.Imports of anode, refined copper, copper alloys and semi-finished copper products stood at 460,000 tonnes in September, the highest since January 2014 and compared to 350,000 tonnes in August, July and June 2015, data from the General Administration of Customs showed on Tuesday.Arrivals increased 17.9 percent from a year ago. In the first three quarters, imports dropped 5.5 percent from a year ago to 3.39 million tonnes."High arrivals in September were linked to good arbitrage ratios. Some shipments also arrived earlier ahead of the week-long Oct. 1 holiday," said Yao Yao, analyst at Maike Futures Brokerage. But Yao said the growing imports did not reflect a strong boost in domestic consumption. She expected monthly imports in the fourth quarter to be slow due to the weaker economic growth.Spot copper prices in China CU-1-CCNMM reached a 2-month high of about 41,200 yuan in September, supported by some production cuts by smelters and expectations that a weaker yuan would increase import costs.Stronger demand for spot refined copper imports had pushed up premiums for bonded stocks to a one-year high of about $130 a tonne, traders said. Some importers had also bought spot shipments from Asia and Chile.Bonded stocks in Shanghai, imported metal that has not been assessed for China's 17-percent value-added tax, were estimated by traders at about 400,000 tonnes currently, compared to about 570,000 tonnes in early August.Imports of raw material copper concentrate rose 5.2 percent to 1.21 million tonnes in September, compared to 1.15 million tonnes in the previous month, the data showed.Concentrate imports in September was down 6.2 percent from a year ago. In the first three quarters, imports rose 9.3 percent on-year to 9.33 million tonnes.
