Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure I would bet that most EV charging will not be performed at home. Most likely EVs will take off once automation reaches the stage that no driver is required and then the vehicles will not be owned by the general population as mobility will be sold as a service. Once this situation arrives the batteries will likely no longer be integral to the vehicle as the vehicles will be utilised as close to 100% as is possible. My best guess is the batteries will be either exchangeable or simply towed behind the vehicle and hence easily unhitched/removed for charging. In towns we may see under road charging and smaller volume energy storage as this would be a more efficient solution in towns.

Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure Meneage<They wouldn't be subsidy-harvesting, perchance? >I'm sure there will be plenty of subsidy harvesting going on at this early stage of roll out. The London Major, for example, wants London using EVs asap, and he is a particular fan of using street lamp charging.[link] practice. i suspect 90% of all electric charging of EVs will be carried out at home, but having charging points handy in the street, when one doesn't have a garage or when one is out shopping is an essential requirement too. There will be considerable incentive for businesses, to introduce charging points nearby, preferably outside their business using street lamps, as it will attract customers. So the way I see this there is a natural momentum afoot which will drive forward the introduction of electrical charging points in the high street and in car parks.Once price parity with petrol driven cars has been reached (diesel cars you can written off now), which should occur within the next few years then we will see EVs hitting the mass market big time. That is the future, one which TRK denied for so many years, it really does beggar belief that the company could be so out of touch, or were they? Perhaps sitting back getting a big salary for as long as possible was what was the real motive, Is anyone bothering to attend the AGM by the way? Is there any point now? I trust the TPSA will refrain from humiliating themselves yet again.Doa

Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure doa, char.gy look more like fake news than anything with substance. Their web page is as light on detail as it is on current. Their electricity prices range from expensive to exorbitant:[link] wouldn't be subsidy-harvesting, perchance?

Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure MeneageStreet light charging is already being installed in London so presumably the "problems" you refer to as regards the wiring isolation at different wattage have been addressed.[link] vision is that there will be several lampposts near your home with a charge-point that you can park near to charge overnight. We are developing a platform to manage the charging too, using a business model not dissimilar from mobile phone contracts. Users pay a monthly fee for access to the charge points and a free allocation of charge.”"The idea of managing the charging in a manner similar to a mobile phone contract sounds like a real money spinner, other companies will quickly follow the money and get on the band wagon installing street light charging..Doa

Dana CVT article [link] may just have to buy one of those Fallbrook Nuvinci bike hubs just to satisfy my sad craving to experience a mass production traction fluid CVT. Was the Torotrak design just too bulky to fit in a bicycle wheel? Hope Dana have better luck with their exploits.

Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure Hmm, don't see anyone from the national grid speaking. I wonder if they've been told about EVs yet ??TP

Re: E-V Charging Infrastructure One tends to forget that a single motorway fuel station, when busy, delivers about 40MW of mechanical energy to cars. Much more if HGV diesel is added. This is the equivalent of some 200 128kW fast EV charging points. Seeing dual charging stands on the roadside and equating them to petrol stations, as portrayed in the media, is a huge underrating.'Integrating EV charge points into streetlights in London.'I trust the speaker is well aware of the difference in current between a 100W LED streetlight (0.4A@240V) and a dual 128kW fast charge point (500A@440V, 3 phase.) Once he or she has their wires uncrossed, they will have to explain how 1MW (MkVA) or more, 3~, wiring is going to be seamlessly incorporated under your average street, and where all that juice is going to come from.TRK could do with a fast charge as well, btw

Re: AGM 29th September I suppose the release of information contained in the NDA with the ETBM, would depend if it is one way (one recipient of information) or mutual (two recipients) and whether it was indefinite, fixed term or related to an 'event' (e.g. the information becoming public knowledge)Dependent on what's happened with the above with regards TRK, I suspect there is no chance of the name being released if there is no commercial gain in doing so. One could also argue there's a plethora of reasons for there even being commercial disadvantages if it ever wasRegardless of this, we've always been treated like mushrooms
