Robot Tanks LK - Looks like BAE have up trumped the little fellows.[link] there is an opportunity to load half a dozen Talons (3 on each side) of the tank and when they get closer to the action the little fellows can jump off and start shooting in the forest. That's assuming the tracks don't break off when they are dispatched from the side of the tank i mean.Games -- Star wars? == ppsssst !!

Re: Leonardo Jack,I think it's a special £1 share rather than the 1% which I wrongly mentioned. It's not a classic golden share, but it still enables the government to stop QQ being bought by Kim Jong Un for example, or anyone else that the guvmint disapproves of.LKH on the flybridge

Re: QQ. article in telegraph.... "QinetiQ’s ski-jump decline may lead to amedal finish rather than a crash landing:The chart shows that QinetiQ’s decline hasbeen less dramatic – more of a ski jump, really. On current trajectory, it will soon betrading below its 200p listing price whichQinetiQ last sank under in spring 2015.Investors with long memories will rememberthe once state-owned group’s stock marketflotation in 2006 rivalled the controversy ofRoyal Mail seven years later. There werecries that the taxpayer had been sold shortas the former research arm of the Ministryof Defence passed first into private equityhands. It did not help that managers wereexcessively enriched, including ChairmanSir John Chisholm, for whom a £20 millionfortune mushroomed out of a £129,000outlay. Last December it was granted a £1billion extension to its long-running contractwith the Government to maintain the MoD’stesting ranges, but efficiencies are on theway. Yet the last Conservative manifestopledged to increase defence budgets by atleast 0.5% above inflation every year until2022. Within that envelope, a commitmentto hi-tech and innovation spending shouldplay to QinetiQ’s strengths. In a furtherdemonstration of his ambition, Wadeyreturned the group to the acquisition traillast December with the £57.5 millionpurchase of a Meggitt division that makesdrones to be shot at in target practice. Plus,it has a strong balance sheet with £190million of net cash expected to haveaccrued by the year-end. Directors areputting their money where their mouths are.Even Mark Elliott, QinetiQ’s Chairman, dipped his hand in his pocket over thesummer, spending £48,000 on shares at anaverage price of 240p. They trade on 13times next year’s forecast earnings whenthe European defence sector is closer to 15times. At this price, the shares are startingto look like a target themselves. Worthholding. Questor says ‘Buy’."

Oohps!! [link] -- The chumps should have bought QQ at 7X instead of Rockwell (or no so well) on 21X.Or is it a case of it's always embarrassing to lose a deal, even if you overpay.Games -- not a holder of Rockwell (sadly); UTD or QQ.

Re: What we do Games,Good stuff, m8. You're right, services rather than products are what QQ does. I fear that I have been carried away by my childish amusement at such products as Upstart (electric climbing rope for overweight special forces blokes) and Talon (robotic grenade launcher). These things are fun but they are but a small part of QQ.One just has to hope that foreigners continue to want to send their test pilots to Boscombe Down for training and that they will be willing to spend top dollar for the privilege.Alternatively one must hope that, one day, one will open one's FT and see that a new QQ product has been invented that will sell in large quantities. I remember when the Tarsier story broke (it's a bit of kit that spots when a plane's aileron drops off and lands on the runway to the likely detriment of following planes lining up to take off). That did a bit of good to the QQ share price.Meanwhile we will chust have to console ourselves with that rock solid balance sheet and the undemanding multiple at which QQ currently sells, relative to, say, Rockwell Collins LOL.LKH on the flybridge and who else would work in Benbecula or South Uist?

What we do [link] each one of the sections in this summary it's very difficult to point to any scalable products that are shipped on a regular basis in any of the sectors it mentions. If you read through it - every one states R&D - Partner - Test - Advise - Train. In fact there is a separate section on training and advisory which repeats everything that's written in each of the industry sections that preceed it.AirLandMaritimeC4ISRCyber SpaceWeaponsRoboticsTraining AdvisoryWhat I'm getting at here, and I don't have enough knowledge of the company to get deeper into the product opportunities, is that non of it scales, and all of it is very much dependent on a customer coming along and saying can I have a few of your white coated chaps to advise on this or test that or train our chaps on this.It all seems a bit ad hoc and brings me back to wondering if the Chairman and CEO really do have a strategy or do they just accept that it's a government service organisation that has just been conveniently made public, and that has benefitted a few Private Equity guys who have been very good at lobbying in parliament to line their pockets.Makes you wonder -- but maybe someone on this board has some insight into where the breakthrough can come from or if it's just another outfit waiting to collect the annual chosen budget from the MOD and US DOD which is nigh on 3/4s of the companies income.Games --ever present to challenge what's what !!

Re: Done deal makes QQ a lot easier to swallow, no?The absorption of a QQ into a UTD or similar wouldn't be too painful, would it?Assuming they see any value of course!I'm guessing you are thinking a Babcock would be more palatable for the UK Gov because of the golden share.Mind you if you look at Bab's performance over the last years it's possibly not in good enough shape to take it on. Bae ? -- also somewhat challenged methinks -- but the added revenue could mask the lack of growth for a year or two - that's how it works isn't it?Games
