Management Charges I know charges are a tricky issue but are Value and Income charges now out of line with other UK Equity Income Trusts? Morningstar quotes 1.4% and II gives 1.26%. Many well-known trusts in the same area have charges in the range 0.6-0.8%. Would the property portfolio account for the difference?John Kay, in his book "The Long and Short of It", stresses the importance of minimising charges. Kay is also a director of Value & Income so so one presumes he is happy with the charges.

Re: Director dealing Paul,I am a few years older than you and am looking forward to VINs promise to allow all shareholders the opportunity to redeem their holding at NAV. I seem to recall that we will have to wait until 2027 for the opportunity which should make the share price around the 331p level if it were today. The share price has increased by about 35 percent over the last 10 years and in the meantime you will have had and will still have all those lovely dividends to play with. What's not to like?So hang on there and enjoy the fruits, 82 will be no age at all in 10 years time. Look forward to living disgracefully spending the money on wine, women and song and then just squander the rest.Kind regardsTJ

Dividend paid out today It was 0.03p. I had a look at their property portfolio. I'm wondering if it will prove resilient against the general trend towards online purchasing. I think with the mix of discount stores and food led pubs it should fairly stable.

Re: Consistent buying support from Matthew O... This has to be good news, a pity some of the other directors haven't topped up too, I notices Angela Lascelles (or whatever her name is) doesn't appear at all as a supprter of the shares of Value & Income Trust. For myself and my granddaughter we added to our holdings quite substantially in February of this year. I rather like the idea that VIN plan to offer shareholders the opportunity to sell their holdings at NAV in a few years time. That gets as close to guaranteeing a return to us in excess of the 15.5 percent or so discount to NAV plus the future dividends of course.I was hoping to put my other grandchildren in but trying to buy the number of shares I wanted for each of them proved to be most difficult given the low number of shares traded. My remaining grandchildren were put into HSBA instead which were sold at a good profit on Monday and reinvested in NG which I hope has been rather oversold recently.Kind regards TJ

Consistent buying support from Matthew Oakeshott M.O. has been a regular large buy from the man behind the trust. His most recent purchases have been very significant - 75,000 shares ar 275p. He last sold shares in 2014. Like us all he's in for the long term. Here's a rundown of purchases up to June 2017: [link]

Re: 'Ave a bit of that! Hi Jack,I've already purchesed twice before, so I was being a little lighthearted this morning.I do actually like the stock, the combinantion of the mixed portfilio of property and equitiies I think is atractive in this market.Especially with the opportunity to pickup stock that's on my add list at a discount.I'm not often a seller, so actually the thin trading attracts me. When get a rough period that's an attractive dimension. The relative lack of information available is a bit concern. It's not well covered or easy to research. In fact, it's like going back to the old days when you just ordered a copy of the R&A (what were those guys called?) and that was it. Unless. I've missed something the IR info. isn't greatAnyway, see you in 2027. It will come quicker than we thinks!I hold both HSBA & LLoy. Both have done me well over the short term. Now I own a little more, as well as others, at a small discount. And of course that property. It's a bit like going into Poundland, I choose that one for the obvious reason (haha) and find everything is 20% off.Happy to try that with a 5% holding.DLDL

Re: 'Ave a bit of that! Good morning devonplay.I have held this stock for many years now, the one thing I have against it is the low number of trades per day. If you need to get out for whatever reason it is not an easy stock to trade perhaps only about 20 trades perday maximum and usually a large buy/sell spread..I recently put my granddaughter into it but because, as I say, there are so few trades daily I decided to put my other grandchildren into LLOY and HSBA. which certainly have liquidity even in difficult markets.Whether you see yourself as a long term holder I know not but it may interest you to know that VIN are introducing a plan to allow all shareholders to sell out at NAV less costs (however they get defined) should they so choose when the VIN debentures mature. That is quite a way off yet. 2027 or so but some may see this trust as a reasonable long term play with the prospect of earning annual dividends of 4 percent plus and an attractive rise of 20percent plus whatever rise or fall of the SP occurs against the general market movements. My granddaughter, hopefully, will see her investment rise and perhaps match whatever performance LLOY & HSBA can manage between now and 2027.I wish you well with your proposed investment..Kind regardsTJ
