Re: PROFIT WARNING Stop loss triggered this morning and kicking myself a little for not being more pro-active as I did notice the supermarket shelves have less prominence than last year and there are more facings of other brands. Time to take stock I think and a little more reading to see where Thornton's are at. Not expecting much to happen before 19th January and it remains to be seen if this is priced in or not. I know the export market is still very small, but I would like to see much more emphasis on that as it would reduce the impact of losing shelf space in the big UK supermarkets, if Thornton's were all over Australia, Canada etc.

Re: T1ps - FEATURED STOCK 70p wish I could get some at 70p..............or even 80p..........Bought some more at 90p this morning.Seems good value to me, for what seems to be only Temporary issues/one off costs (warehouse), and perhaps, inventory jugglnig by a few supermarkets.

Re: At 84p, still far too high, imo. A PER of <10?For a company that still has lots of growth potential, has showed significat growth up till recently - and a company that is probably still fine tuning its own buisness model (from the sounds of it) then PER <10 seems far too cheap.Maybe in the old days, when people could get over a 5% rtn on interest from a bank, then possibly, but not today. To invest in a company that makes good money, has good growth potential - and is very much likely to benefit from future cost savings (Oil price drop will be a big benefit) - than I would think the current 90p is a good entry price, and if holding, I would certainly not be panicing.Seems very likely, that the supermarkets are playing games with their inventories/ordering/payments etc............a strange climate for supermarkets, and this is affecting Thorntons - but surely, will not be affecting the long term development of the Thornotns buisness. Will be interesting to see if any directors snap a few up.

At 84p, still far too high, imo. Normalised EPS were 9.35p last year and 5.23p the year before.Current year earnings are now to be lower than last year.Assuming they turn out to be mid-way between these two figures would give about 7.3p.Margins are likely to be squeezed terribly by the big retailers, themselves in difficulty. The move into FMCG is now showing its downside ("swim with the sharks", etc). For me, a PER of below 10 would be needed as an entry point, given this RNS and the sector uncertainty. Therefore, an SP of below 70p.Yes, I do know there's property backing.......but there's also a pension deficit. All IMHO.DYOR.

PROFIT WARNING NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR AT xmas!!!!THORNTONS PLC("Thorntons" or "the Company" TRADING UPDATE Thorntons announces that its UK Commercial channel within its FMCG division has faced challenges which have adversely affected its sales performance in the run up to Christmas. Meanwhile, the Retail division is currently experiencing like-for-like sales growth. Against a strong comparative period last year, the Board now anticipates a decline in sales in the UK Commercial channel for the second quarter of the current financial year. The Board now expects earnings for the full year to be below those achieved for the last financial year. During the first half there have been two principal challenges. We have recently experienced a significant reduction in previously indicated orders from the major grocers who also took in stock later than anticipated. While there has been an overall decline, the performance in the grocers has been mixed with good growth in several of our major partners yet significant volume decline in some others where prior year sales of high-volume lines have not been repeated. We have also seen good growth in the convenience and high street sectors. Secondly, despite extensive prior testing, we encountered significant short-term difficulties with our new centralised warehouse which resulted in disruption for all our customers. In particular in our UK Commercial channel we experienced lost and late sales with consequent missed promotional slots and reorders. Our warehousing and distribution facility is now working normally. The move to a centralised warehouse was essential to meet current and future business patterns and growth. This will result in improved capacity and quality of service for our customers in the future. Timely management action has resulted in good control of costs and stocks. Christmas seasonal specialities have sold well and no significant excess seasonal stock is anticipated. The Board remains confident in its strategy, multi-channel approach and ongoing transformation. A further trading update will be issued on 19 January 2015.

Granny seeks... Granny seeks a compliment or two for her recent fairly accurate messages.Any volunteers?I have just served her a nice hot cup of tea, she is busy with her I-Pad trying to come to grips with the touch-keyboard, it puzzles her that it works at all without real keys.Good old Granny.WS
