BKR The longer that this uncertainty goes on over the Rhum field, the more doubt it creates over whether the BKR deal will go through. Iran's situation is becoming worse with Russia criticism of Iranian activities in Syria and Israel ramping up its campaign against Iran's assets in Lebanon.[link] seems determined to press ahead with sanctions and is not prepared to make exceptions for European companies caught up in the flak. Total Oil being a case in point, having built a massive investment interest in Iran in recent times, the Company has been warned that it will contravene US sanctions by continuing operations. No compromise. The BKR deal is miniscule in scale against BP's business interests in the USA. They will not risk upsetting the USA by pushing ahead with BKR despite sanctions or looking for a license for an exception to be made. All in my humble opinion of course. DYOR.

Re: Update on BKR I think they had to suspend/delay Rhum. To have entered into discussions with the US whilst carrying out work that looks like preparation for future contravention of the sanctions would be unwise and almost guaranteed to ruffle feathers. As to the eventual outcome of those meetings - who knowsAt least this time they have provided more detail - to me it reads slightly more positively but I could be reading into it the outcome I prefer for the company

Re: Update on BKR BBCR4 Reported at 8:20 that the BP work had been suspended and that the Rhum deal was OFF. That is not the case - yet anyway.

Southmead 22 May 2018

Update on BKR Taken together with yesterdays news on US sanctions on Iran, I would say that this statement doesn't really add much to what we already know. US sanctions are coming, they will affect the BKR deal and BP will not attempt get around US sanctions for the good of their very substantial US business interests.Yesterdays statement on US sanctions does really confirm that there is no immediate likelihood of a climb down by Iran and a new agreement being reached. So if the current state of affairs stays in place, the US sanctions will be imposed. The re-completion of the Rhum R3 well is the first casualty of the sanctions. It is pretty salutary to note that US involvement in the safety and environmental requirements of the re completion of R3 cannot be replaced by other operators not affected by the sanctions!.What I hoped for in today's announcement from Serica was some indication as to how the BKR deal could progress with sanctions.Could the deal be restructured or changed? Could Rhum be excluded for the time being? But there is no guidance on any of this, I guess because the answer would be no. IMO BP need to transfer all the 180 or so staff who look after the 3 fields. If they retain Rhum they will need staff to operate it, and that is the problem. So we are back to hoping that the US change their minds and come to a new agreement with Iran. Otherwise I think that the BKR deal is dead or postponed.
