Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Yes, I like the phrase "nicely uncorrelated".Sums this up very well and is the reason I am invested too.

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Caesat,Over five years it's done fine, based on a mark one eyeball scan of the chart, against the FTSE. As long as it continues in that vein I shall be happy to continue to hold it, even if it doesn't shoot the lights out. I feel that it is nicely uncorrelated with a lot of my traditional blue chips, and that has to be a good thing from the point of view of long term steady overall growth (or at least maintenance of capital in real terms).I don't invest expecting a ten bagger (though that would be nice) and I remain quite content to hang on to Lord R's investment coattails. No-one ever went bankrupt investing alongside the Rothschilds ... provided one steered clear of the boy Nat's Indonesian coal brainfart.I hope Ron (Wrong?) Tabboule feels suitably shifty about his remarks about Russia in January last year.LKH in Davos

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Hmm. It's lagged the FTSE over the past few years. I have been investing the same monthly amount with temple bar and over 10 years they have outperformed RIT by about £10k. RIT has beaten a deposit account but then you would expect this given the extra risk. I'm not saving the RIT is bad - just that it's investments have not exactly been in favour. The recent uncertainty has been playing into their hands. PS: RIT might be too big!

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Yes RCP is also my largest holding, my only regret is that I did no make it 100%

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Would agree that the MCX is not the benchmark to use.I think some context is needed re performance, RIT should nicely outperform asmarkets become more volatile and ultimately the next bear market arrives.preserving capital during declines, it then allows compounding from a higher rate. That is my rational and have backed this with RCP being my largest single holding.

Gold above 1300 From memory RIT retained exposure to gold through gold miners. It was one of the main detractors from NAV mentioned in last year's annual report, hopefully this now reverses positively and becomes accretive. It appears there may be two NAV updates in February rather than the usual mid month release, last year updated NAV for 31/12 was announced in very early Feb, followed by an end of January NAV a couple of weeks later approx. With rapidly increasing market volatility and RIT's large quoted equity hedge of 19% at the last release, there may be some significant outperformance against wider markets over the next 2-3 years. All IMV only, please dyor as always.

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 There is no doubt that RIT's returns have been below par in recent times, but why on earth compare its performance to FTSE 250? RIT is a highly diversified global investment vehicle. If you want FTSE 250 performance (for good or bad) buy a FTSE 250 tracker.

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 They did very well for many years, but they've been less than impressive for the last three years or so - just look at the chart compared to the FTSE 250 over that period - [link]

Added A few on that dip.

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 Richard, I expect a very strong next 3-5 years on NAV growth.Rising market volatility and the next bear market will provide ample opportunities for RIT IMV.My target price within 5 years is £20-22 a share, strictly IMV only, this is just mybest estimate.Well done on your investment returns.

Re: Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 I seem to have held these shares forever, bought at 345p.My only regret I did not buy more

EssentialInvestor 19 Dec 2014

Rising NAV - last NAV 1474 RCP has traded at a premium to NAV in the past. This is my favoured investment trust choice going in to 2015.
