Re: Fall not enough 24/7 with a 10% discount on Grocery Brands........looks like Amazon is major concern... a pre-emptive strike perhaps!!

Mr Paul Thompson 15 Jan 2016

Re: Fall not enough Can you have your delivery at any time you choose 24/7?

Genemachine 15 Jan 2016

Re: Fall not enough Just been offered 3 months Delivery Free....is this an attempt to capture market share, a fight against the opposition or desperation? Don't know how widespread this offer is or just an effort to capture sleeping customers.

Re: Fall not enough .....and of course we have competition and an expanding Amazon Grocery offer!! A very happy, healtyhy and prosperous year to all!

Re: Fall not enough Good point well made. I would not have thought of that.

Re: Leaks I am a postie and came across an Ocado driver a few weeks back. It seemed he drived all the way from the M25 belt a 120 mile round journey. They haven'y got it right yet. The long term chart, valuation, market niche and short sellers say this is going down. 250 ish next stop.

Re: Leaks Hi Genemachine - Thanks for post, but you have been mislead by my poor use of English. I didn't mean ''sales but 'selling' i.e.selling share positions as opposed to lending for shorts. But moving on and in response. Would they attract a buyer? possibly if someone wanted to close out the knowledge to any others. Density of population? well they already service most of England, and with the opening of Andover and Erith the south will be sewn up (excepting Devon and Cornwall). Where else would it work? well anywhere that Amazon may think it would work, that will the catalyst for technology licencing to established grocers worldwide, but think Tokyo, Mumbai, Paris, east coast west coast USA etc etc. And lastly profitability. With a Tech subsidiary employing circa 600 heads we would all agree that this sort of drain on resources could not go on indefinitely. But the whole purpose of the exercise is that Ocado Technology will become a substantial profit centre in it's own right, and at which time the retailing companies will only be supporting IT heads sufficient for there own needs.Well, that's the thinking anyway, and although I am a believer I realise that many others are not.Best wishes.

Re: Leaks Paul...enjoy your posts BUT it is not "sales" that matter but "the cost of sales " and the "profit" that then results from "sales". The old adage comes to mind...."sales are for vanity but profit is for sanity". Always my concern with this lot and whether they can/would attract a buyer....where else can they go in the UK where there is a density of population similar to the M 25 (where they already struggle to make meaningful profit) and where else in Europe would it work where shopping habits are totally different to the UK? Maybe I have got it wrong but the valuation attached to this company is merchant/investment banking wonderland!!!

Re: Leaks This is not a vendetta, but while we are at it. Shorts. Not the few quid spread bet but major institutional shorting. Scenario. I own ten million shares which I intend to hold as I see long term gain. You see short term price volatility and want to borrow the shares from me to sell, with the intention of buying them back cheaply at a lower price and then returning them to me having made a profit. This may or may not work, and meanwhile I retain the beneficial interest, remain a confident holder and draw a fee from you. If I want them back before you are ready well hard luck, you must return them anyway. If I lacked confidence in the future I would sell them myself, not lend them to you.So the worrying sign surely is not shorts, it's sales. Comments please.

Re: Fall not enough I couldn't really be bothered to respond to this initially, but boredom has got the better of me.You said "The proportion of VAT will also probably be rising with the falling basket size". How does that work?

Tenobas 10 Dec 2015

Leaks Also, the graph suggests that by subtle means there may have been leaking of these turnover figures. That would be an attempt to soften the effect of the blow. This share should soon be testing historical lows.

Tenobas 10 Dec 2015

Fall not enough Today's fall is not an adequate response to the trading update.Looking behind the numbers reveals a very bad situation.Only gross sales are revealed but those include VAT and vouchers. With £20 discount vouchers everywhere this suggests that sales have not grown at all.The proportion of VAT will also probably be rising with the falling basket size.Despite all these discount vouchers the growth in the 'gross' sales slowed significantly in the final quarter. The cash situation (£30m down) suggests that the numbers will move from profit to loss this time.
