Re: How low Thank you gents or ladies, your views have helped me understand the substantial fall from the highs. All your incites give me more to research and maybe I will come to understand better. I, like most of you have moved in or out but could not understand the sustained downward trend.

Re: How low """I've done rather well out of NG in the past. Originally holding in certificated form for several years I sold at a nice profit + dividends, buying back in a few months later (via a nominee ISA) for a lot less (profitable swing trade) and finally buying and selling again a couple of years later at another nice profit + dividends."""FR - You are right in the sense that stocks like this can be "swing traded" and you can buy low, sell high in a cyclical fashion. I guess you have to have an element of luck in your timing. As a relative measure though and as a long term investment if you just hold the stock, you are likely always to underperform.""but NG is a regulated monopoly (this side of the pond) and regulated in the US"">> I think that really is exactly my original point though in the fact that it IS regulated and therefore it's return is somewhat controlled. It's kind of regulated in two or three ways - 1. It's price is regulated, 2. It's capital expenditure is also to a certain extent, as any big capital underinvestment will be jumped on by the regulator, 3 The returns are self regulated due to the very fact it's ROCE is relatively low.Remember Charlie Mungers statement about you can only expect a return consistent with the level of the ROCE over a period of time. If it's low, the long term compounded effect will be low - relatively at least. I think the aspect of the pseudo monopolistic safety is what appeals to many and the surety (if there is such a thing of course) that it'll always be there.Games

Re: Where is LK Hyman? Last known P of C... I have been watching Akis post. If LKH is still monitoring these messages I would have thought he might want Akis post deleted since it contains much personal data. The post still stands and so I fear that all may not be well. I hope I am wrong.F
