Bought I wasn't aware of this stock until the bid by Abcam but with the potential bid lapsed and the price back down towards recent lows I have made a tentative entry. I'm not a fan of paying 10x revenues for any stock, but this is undeniably an area where there is potential for transformative growth and that doesn't come cheap. My hope is that the potential of a bid from Abcam will underpin the shares while the management has time to deliver on the growth potential.

Re: Views on Abcam bid. Well hzd have certainly come out fighting, if it wasn’t clear before it is (to me) that the Abcam initial offer was way out of kilter. Personally I have the patience to see this run on its own , but if Abcam don’t dig into their pockets, others will, we are definitely in play like it or not.

Re: Views on Abcam bid. Thanks for the information on the relationship between Horizon and Abcam, very interesting. I bought some Horizon shares just over a year ago as they were in a sector I was interested in. They were recommended by an article I read, unfortunately I have got no specific technical knowledge to impart. However I do agree that they should not be bought out for less than 250p. I thought that the Feb company update was encouraging as it informed us that they were profitable from Q417 onwards and the subsequent so fall was unfounded.

Views on Abcam bid. I have been monitoring Horizon Discovery for some time and the bid by Abcam (which I have held since 2014) has led me to do a bit more research on Horizon Discovery and I like what I see. For me, the earlier deal with GE and the Abcam bid have validated Horizon's valuation around the £280M mark so I am happy to invest now at 193p. Clearly, Horizon is not going to accept the current offer from Abcam which was made in the hope that it would get negotiations going. I would speculate that Horizon would also not accept a significantly higher offer from Abcam so there is an argument for holding fire on buying the shares as I expect the share price will fall back if the offers are refused. Horizon is still at quite an early stage and I am sure its management want to generate alot more value before selling-out. There are of course other potential bidders for Horizon, of which Lonza Biotech is an obvious example, but Lonza is still digesting the Capsugel acquisition which completed less than a year ago, although Horizon is still small enough for Lonza to gobble it up without financial heroics. I think it is more likely that Lonza's management, would judge that Horizon will refuse to sell out at this stage and will not therefore bid, but this is just my speculation. My guess is that the most likely outcome is that Abcam or perhaps another suitor, may come in with higher bids which will be rejected by the Horizon board and the share price will therefore fall back, so I have restrained myself from taking my normal sized stake in Horizon and will increase my stake if this happens. However, I do not think the price will fall back to the pre-bid level so the downside is limited. I would speculate that there is a slight chance that the Horizon and Abcam boards know each other so well that an agreement for a merger can be reached, but I reckon this would on terms regarded as favourable for Horizon shareholders. I still view Abcam as a brilliant business but some of Horizon's products have a more directly pivotal role in drug development so I would expect Horizon to have more upside in the long term, as exemplified by its Avvinity Therapeutics joint venture. Look forward to hearing any comments on the above, agreeing or disagreeing.

Re: Suspicious There are definite synergies with Abcam, and I think the deal makes sense. What doesn't make sense is the offer price. An offer at around £2.50 would be more realistic.

Re: Suspicious Jonathan Millner a board member of both companies also bought back in Feb 260,000 at just under 1.80, so if it was a bargain then, then a bid of 1.81 is now, this will obviously have to go higher, but ultimately it does look like a good synergy. I believe for obvious reasons he needs to keep out of any discussions.

Suspicious Although good news for shareholders it makes the 2 large directors buys on 6 April at around 131p a bit suspicious, especially when one of them is a shareholder of both companies.
