The 300p barrier gone/will 250 hold? My latest numbers suggest a fair value of 250p that's 7 x earnings in 2016 of approx. 33p unless a recovery comes in coal or I see in August a plan to increase IND SER side of business its best avoided. good news is no debt and net cash going forward. this years figures will make share price look too low but with 60% still made from coal trading/production and that the last coal power station will go inside 15 years they need another angle. certainly see 300p being tested. My post SEVERAL MONTHS AGO.Tiger Tiger

shares buy Courtesy of alliance trustHargreaves a winter warmerWinter chill could provide coal boostWilliam CainWeather watchers should stick coal merchant Hargreaves Services (HSP:AIM) on their watchlist ahead of an El Nino-induced deep freeze which risks household energy black-outs. The forecast winter chill has prompted Prime Minister David Cameron to hold talks with cabinet colleagues to discuss Britain’s flagging energy capacity. Energy transmission operator National Grid (NG.) says peak energy supply will be 1.2% higher than peak demand this winter, its lowest level in a decade. Weak commodity markets and the closure of coal-powered stations in the past 12 months have hit investor sentiment towards the coal industry and suppliers like Hargreaves. But coal continues to enjoy a cost advantage over gas, according to National Grid’s 2015/16 outlook, albeit a narrower one than last year. ‘Forward prices for winter 2015/16 continue to favour coal burn over lower to average efficiency gas plants for power generation,’ the report says. Troubled Hargreaves certainly needs a break after a miserable 2015 which saw profitability plummet and management switch to cash conservation mode. Closure of the Redcar Steelworks will also impact profitability. The potential for windfall profits at the unloved support services business if Britain faces an Arctic blast is offset to an extent by a large inventory build-up among coal powered facilities after a mild winter in 2014. Shares says: Buy "This is highly speculative call at 322.75p. Hargreaves trades at two-thirds of its last reported tangible book value, albeit there are risks of write downs.

Re: How i see this year. CT- I take it the steel company you refer to is SSI? Is there any truth in rumours that HSP may be given the Redcar coke ovens and power station as a pay off?

Re: How i see this year. How much is owing to HSP by the steel company. Also another 4 million in profits gone.it gets no easier eh!Tiger

It is easy to win Contracts with the hope of increasing margins but to loose established recurring ones that take low investment in time and money is another thing.

mexicoman 04 Sep 2015

Re: How i see this year. You see with Hargreaves they don't do all that breaking news stuff they just get on with the job and when it's getting hard they crack on and don't say all the new contracts they keep getting

powerexpert 03 Sep 2015

Muliple operation and maintenance contracts are being lost by the demise of the UK fossil fuel power and process industries - they're easy cash generating contracts for stable businesses but not any more. Interesting if they can adapt after such a share bashing and build any market confidence.
