Re: Safe Haven Last EU referendum I voted in based on Edward Heath's government advice and regretted it when food prices shot up and we were forced out of advantageous trade agreements with commonwealth in favour of more expensive EU food imports. The constant meddling by EU annoys me, particularly as we seem to follow rules and quite a few European countries choose to ignore inconvenient ones. Hate fact that EU accounts never signed off by auditors because of all the corruption. Would like to vote out but fear unknown consequences. My friends evenly split. One firmly against leaving as he works for an American company as an European technical sales person and would be out of a job if we leave.

Re: Safe Haven I'm with you on Halma, and with LKH on the referendum.I can see why some "patriotic" people don't like too many Johnny Foreigners on our shores or like some people in Brussels making rules for us (interesting Brussels is closer to England than Newcastle is to London) but I think they have a mistaken idea of what being British is (bit of German mingled with Italian, French, Scandinavian, and these days the old Commonwealth too) and are entrenched in a vision of GB which is a thing of the past as much as Vanwall racing cars. However, I do not understand why so many private investors seem keen to leave - they must be masochists who want to lose money. It's worrying times. All the people in favour of leaving seem to think we will get super trade deals with the rest of the EU. Has anyone requested a divorce and come out of the marriage with everything they wanted? The main thing is we've been doing OK as a member of the EU; and if we stay things will go on as before; but if we leave who knows what will happen in so many aspects of life. Most people I know are conservative (small c) and like to have the security of being in a settled situation. I just don't see how that squares with wanting to leave the EU.

Safe Haven Halma showing the characteristics of a safe haven share in a mixed up market. Looks like the sensible money is coming our way before FTSE decisions and Brexit/Remain vote. I'm not complaining! On a slightly different tack, my friends and colleagues in a straw poll are about 8:1 in favour of Brexit - is this representative or are most of my associates of a like mind? The bookies odds are completely different, last time I looked there were odds of 4:1 against Brexit.Any sign of Lambrini girl for her 'valued' opinion?

Re: Another new high True and ended the week on yet another as did ESP. There have been few now highs in my portfolio recently apart from HLMA. In 2016 ESP, PSN, TET, RELX, WPP. On 23 Feb 2015 I had 13 closing highs since purchased of 44 shares I held then.

Another new high Halma keeps breaking through the ceiling and following a pattern of 3 steps forwards, two back. Momentum still in an upwards trend and likely to continue in the same vein for some months to come. FTSE 100 next stop? Brexit immune? I'd say yes to both. (and what a nice pattern below!).

Re: strange behavior Certainly, the point of the tiny trades that continued throughout the day, until the final trade, is beyond me, especially since the sp did not move much at all. Probably does not matter anyway..Stock still attractive as a long term investment imho

Re: strange behaviour this morning Yes, a lot of tiny trades and altogether quite high volume. I've always thought that these small trades are generated by algorythms designed to reveal large trades waiting in the dark pools. It happens a lot with St Modwen but I have never been able to figure out if I can piggyback on the algorythm. Anyway, today I took the opportunity to use the dip to buy into my ISA.

strange behaviour this morning There have been a great number of tiny trades this morning for no obvious reason. Strange behaviour really unless the sellers think they get a better price by dealing in the odd hundred.

Another new all time high Wish I had bought these shares more than 13 months ago. In the last 8 years average SP trend has been 23% p.a. SP rise has been very consistent for last 7 years at 22.5% p.a. as plotted on log scale. Looking at chart a stop loss of 13% from high looks appropriate so currently 799p.I have built up HLMA holding to nearly 4% of total portfolio value. If SP falls below 850p I think I will buy more. Would like to have more shares as consistently good as HLMA.

Re: New all time closing high Rhigos - stay schtum.....you know what will happen now......!Any more drops to 870p and I'll be adding greatly. Perhaps now is the time to sing Halma's praises from the rooftops - this is one share that has been more than just a reliable old friend.

Re: New all time closing high Another new all-time closing high. HLMA now my 6th largest holding by value just below WPP, which also hit a new high today.I built up my HLMA holding in 4 tranches 1st and largest in Sep 2014 and 3 more about 1/4 the size in 2015. My average gross cost price 691p. I'm sure this is high compared with those who have held for longer. Just looked at 10 year log plot of SP. Very impressive. For last 4 years SP line more or less straight with a trend of 21% pa. Last 4 years dividend chart an almost straight rising line like turnover. A very impressive looking set of charts. Grateful to LKH for first pointing out this company and ShareScope for reminding me to buy with a golden cross in late Aug 2014. Incidentally another gold cross on 25 Feb 2016.I would consider buying more on dips.

Re: Uncharted heights bought mine at 330p ...what seems not long ago .Sold 40% of holding at 680p .wont make that same mistake again !If it falls back to around 800p -mental note to buy .

Re: Uncharted heights I've held this share for donkey's, all because Goldfinger Posgate recommended it to me long ago and because my ma told me she played a game called 'Halma' when she was a child.Dodgy reasoning but sound result!
