Good news for shareholdes No wonder the share price increased today to close at nearly 2,000 pence. The government today confirmed that investment in privatised industries is risk free and that when poor management put fat dividends at risk, taxpayers will bale shareholders out. To achieve this taxpayers will give Southern Rail £2 million (a gift of £1.3 million to the Go-Ahead Group) to help them provide a service they are incapable of providing.

Re: Rail strikes and track repairs Just click 'chart' and you will realise that what I said was not propaganda. Just to make it clear, I do not work for this awful company, do not hold shares in this awful, company and I am not a member of any trade union. I do, however, have to use the appalling train service on offer, so hope that management eventually see sense and seek a solution. In the meantime, I have conducted some research and have found that there is a strong correlation between poor management and a falling share price. So I know, the longer I suffer as a passenger the more shareholders will lose. I cannot see 1,955p,holding unless the current dispute is resolved.

Re: Rail strikes and track repairs Anyone who buys this share can expect to lose even more money. This share has been mauled and rightly so, because the management is just as bad as it gets. This lot own 65% of GoviaThameslink, who in turn operate the shambles known as Southeastern Rail. The company are not prepared to listen to either their staff or customers. They believe they are experts in 'change management' which, in their case, translates to management by edict and change for changes sake.Anyone who has had management training and has experience of running a business knows that you get good results when you achieve consensus and people actually want to work for you. Very successful companies such as Google understand this and go out of their way to look after their employees. In this company's case, employees are thoroughly demotivated that most of them are looking for other jobs. The stress of working for this awful company leads to sickness and they leave in droves when they can. This is why we are subjected to cancellations and late trains; mainly due to staff sickness and shortage of staff. As the management are totally intransigent things can only get worse, GoviaThameslink have been operating a 'reduced' service for several weeks and still we are subjected to cancellations, late running trains and overcrowding.More strikes are planned and rightly so, as management's negotiating style is: these are our terms -.take it or leave it. The trouble is that too many are leaving it and that is why they are incapable of running an effective service. The only way shareholders can recover their losses is to sack the entire board and bring in people with management training. Until that happens, investors should steer well clear.

Rail strikes and track repairs I'm beginning to think that we might be approaching a buying opportunity.Rail (which is getting GOG all the bad publicity, although track work is a contributor to the delays) is not a particularly important profit source for them (17%, the rest being London and regional busses). But rail accounts for 75% of GOG's turnover which must mean it consumes a disproportionate amount of management attention. That makes me think that they are being hammered too hard by the market. Whatever comes out of the strike people might be pleasantly surprised when the preliminary results come out (next month, I think). Am I a naïve optimist?

Re: Whats going on? It's the fact that they've missed their long-touted target of £100m profit in the bus division, and that profits are generally down. I'm in the employee SIP scheme, and I've thought the shares were over-valued for a while.

Whats going on? Cannot see too much wrong with the results but the share price has crashed 7% in a rising market. Anyone any insight on this?
