Backing Yourself I never cease to be impressed by Nick Train's constant topping-up of his stake in the fund he manages. Every time the price dips, he bags at least another 10000 shares, sometimes more. It speaks volumes for me about the quality of this fund as a smart long term investment. Party on Nick.

Re: Interesting video by the manager Yes, I've seen fund managers enthusiastically losing money in the past, but this guy has the track-record to back it up. It does worry me though, when they feel the need to drum up support. His argument about the dividend rises is heart-warming though. You mention Bruce Stout and there's an article here with Bruce being typically dour. The last line uses the phrase "no ray of sunshine" which seems to sum up Mr. stout perfectly.[link]

Re: Interesting video by the manager Not really an interview, more of a speech to existing and potential investors. He has a very emphatic manner of delivery, but like James Anderson at Scottish Mortgage, Bruce Stout at Murray International or John Bennett at Henderson European Focus, it's interesting to hear someone who has enthusiasm and definite opinions. So many investment managers seem grey and hesitant in comparison, like accountants or lawyers who hedge and qualify everything they say. Equally many people are wary of enthusiasts, especially when it involves their hard-earned money!I agree his arguments are persuasive, but none of us know whether the fall in the oil price is going to last long. Will the North Dakota wildcatters praised by Nick Train be driven into bankruptcy, after which OPEC tries to push prices back up again?
