A no brainer Frontier was always a no brainer for me. I kickstarted Elite Dangerous back in 2012 for around £1000. In the game's first year of release, the number of subscribers times the average price was half the market cap of the company. Clearly massively undervalued, and as a man on the "inside" by buying all their games and going to their conventions, I could see this company was going up. Just really happy to see this company being rewarded.I can only see good things. Their community engagement, quality of products and great leadership can only mean good things for them. Good luck all and buy their games!

Terrific new appointment today The comments in the RNS about "becoming a global leader in entertainment" and scaling up the franchises are revealing in themselves, but the man himself is pretty interesting imo, given that:"he specialised in digital marketing, brand and strategy for Google's top games industry clients including Activision, EA, Ubisoft and Wargaming as Games Industry Manager for the Media & Entertainment Sector".He'll bring some excellent contacts to the table.[link] to his work for Google, Stewart was at both WPP and InterPublic Group where he ran global B2B and B2C campaigns for the technology industry which included several Nokia, Oracle and Fujitsu Siemens product lines. He also acted as a digital insights specialist to the Nokia Helsinki retail team for online marketing and POS strategy."

Interview with CEO in the Times Great interview with David Braben in yestreday's Times. Most of it's about his career in general, but there's a couple of interesting comments relating specifically to FDEV:[link] listing on Aim in 2013, it has moved to a more lucrative self-publishing model bypassing third parties to get to the front of the supply chain, where it can keep about 70 per cent of sales revenues.Today, with a rock solid reputation for quality, Frontier is benefiting from the shift from boxed copies of games to cloud-based distribution. This removes the risks and costs of holding physical inventory and enables publishers to sell additional paid-for features over time, giving products a longer shelf life. “With an online game it’s much more software as a service. You can make it better over time,” Mr Braben says. With two further games in development, analysts at Liberum expect Frontier, which has trebled revenue in the past four years, to double its sales from an estimated £30 million next year to £61 million in 2019. Much of this growth will come from China. Frontier has secured a £17.7 million investment from Tencent, the Chinese internet group, to help it to expand and develop games that cross cultural boundaries.""He foresees a future in which gaming continues to take audience share, screen time and revenue from other forms of media. partly because older people are being attracted to gaming. With revenues estimated at $109 billion for 2017, computer games have overtaken film and television ($105 billion) to make up the single biggest component of the $300 billion-a-year entertainment industry. At the same time, non-interactive forms of media such as film and television could increasingly adopt interactive features from games. Even at the most basic level, the popularity of shows such as the Great British Bake Off is testament to the demand for interaction in TV. “The people who know how to do interaction best are in the games industry. The scope for interesting tie-ups, with the BBC, television and film production companies, will get stronger,” he says."

Two pieces of good news The video on the Jurassic Park game's own channel has nearly a million views in just two days and 98% approval rating: [link] excellent coverage in today's Daily Mail:[link] boss David Braben said the internet had given British firms much greater reach around the world. He said: "The industry is growing massively at the moment and as the world becomes more online we have the opportunities to compete in places we just could not get to before.˜In the past we had to work with bigger publishers but we can now make our own deals and on bigger margins than before."

RNS: FDEV to produce Jurassic Park game! Fabulous news for next summer - should produce huge sales, particularly on Playstation and Xbox.Given the simultaneous worldwide launch of the next Jurassic Park movie the game should be a global smash hit with all the accompanying PR:[link] will be our first self-published title to debut on PC, PlayStation and Xbox simultaneously, and the first to benefit from such a major marketing event as the theatrical release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom."

Re: Liberum initiate : 850p target Good coverage of Liberum's upgrade here:[link] initiates coverage of Frontier Developments Liberum has initiated coverage of Frontier Developments (FDEV) and expects the videogames developer can double revenues in 2019.Analyst Andrew Bryant initiated coverage with a ‘buy’ recommendation and a target price of 850p on the shares, which jumped 6.15% to 655p on the news. ‘Frontier is at the forefront of a transformation of the gaming sector, with digital distribution enabling proven developers to move to a self-publishing model, by-pass traditional publishers and retailers, and go straight to the gamers,’ he said. The recent investment by China’s leading internet company Tencent plus a third gaming franchise in the pipeline meant Bryant felt comfortable forecasting a ‘doubling of revenues in full-year 2019’. This, he said, helps to underpin the investment case. "

Liberum initiate : 850p target Further to Liberum's initiation of coverage with a Buy and an 850p target, here's a couple of snippets FYI (from their huge 36 page note!): "Frontier is at the forefront of a transformation of the gaming sector, with digital distribution enabling proven developers to move to a self-publishing model, by-pass traditional publishers and retailers, and go straight to the gamers. This has substantially changed the growth outlook and margins for developers and is central to Frontier's strategy to launch a series of game franchises. The validation and strategic benefits of the recent investment by Tencent, the expected confirmation of the third franchise and our forecast doubling of revenues in FY19 help underpin the investment case." "Valuation- Re-rating last 6 mnths with sector- Shares trade FY19 3.5x EV/sales- TP 850p based on FY19 5x sales- Major operational gearing- Target £100m revs/30% margins"

Good coverage in Shares Magazine including these extracts re analyst comment:[link] "TRANSFORMATIONAL TIE-UP David Braben, founder and CEO of Frontier, best-known for its Elite Dangerous game, comments:‘Tencent is the market leader in the online games industry in China and operating a premium PC games distribution platform, WeGame. This strategic investment will both help drive our scale up, and improve access and accelerate our growth into the key Chinese market. Tencent will be a powerful partner for Frontier, in what will soon be the world's largest market for entertainment.’JOINING AN ELITE CLUB Numis Securities’ David Toms upgrades his price target from 466p to 605p, writing: ‘This is clearly a very positive endorsement from a major global player in the entertainment industry; Tencent has existing holdings in Supercell (Clash of Clans), Riot Games (League of Legends), Epic Games (Unreal game engine, Gears of War) and a broad range of other gaming, internet and entertainment businesses.’Toms continues: ‘The proceeds will be used by Frontier to augment existing resources and accelerate the scale-up of existing operations and franchises. In addition, the Tencent relationship should support Frontier in capitalising on the large and growing market in China, through local expertise and access to Tencent's distribution capabilities including the WeGame online store.’FinnCap’s Harold Evans, with a 690p price target for Frontier, believes ‘this latest investment by Tencent speaks volumes about how highly Frontier is regarded in the industry.’Evans also explains that ‘as well as being a games developer and publisher Tencent is also a platform and services company, and is currently updating its gaming platform ‘WeGame’. This is relevant because, as a shareholder, we would expect Tencent to promote and support Frontier in what – over time – could become an important games channel. This should therefore provide Frontier with another route to market, increasing the company’s addressable market.'

Great Cambridge Start-up Good to see investment coming in that leverages UK technical know-how in global markets.I'm old enough to have played Elite on the BBC and share price continues to astound me and you wonder where the top might be. Huge market to play for, so it could still more than triple if the revenues follow the investment. The guys are damn bright so they have a chance, and lets hope they don't get gobbled by a Sony too early.Well done. A, thinking, good job I went on holiday and didn't take profits

Tencent (China) invest in FDEV..... This is terrific news. Tencent's investment at 523.2p at almost no discount to the share price is good in itself, but the opportunities it will open up are massive.... I suspect FDEV may now become one of "those" stocks where the price races away given the potential.....[link]
