Jefferies view "Inexpensive Dairy Crest reaps benefits away from milkThe milk division may still be struggling but Dairy Crest (DCG) is profiting from cheese and spreads.Jefferies analyst Alex Howson retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and increased the target price from 490p to 535p. The shares rose 1.3% to 504p yesterday.‘Profitability across cheese and spreads is robust, with spreads rebounding ahead of expectations. Dairies continue to lose money but its divestment to Muller is on-track pending regulatory approval.‘We trim full year 2015 profit before tax -1% but increase full year 2016 +1.6%... the dairies exit optionality also looks under-appreciated, undervaluing the residual business.’He added that shares were ‘inexpensive, offering yield and optionality’. Re: Sale to Muller There seems to be competition developing in the supermarkets on chees pricing.. I just worry that Dairy Crest is selling out of the competitive milk business, thereby making it a cosy niche with just two major companies, while chees and spreads becomes more difficult.

Mail-Midas "Dairy Crest's announced sale of its dairies is a smart deal because it will leave the company free to concentrate on more profitable products such as Country Life butter and Davidstow Cheddar, Midas said in the Mail on Sunday. Dairy Crest's prospects are brighter than before and if the deal goes through the shares are a firm hold. But with approval needed by competition authorities, pessimistic investors should take gains now in case the transaction falls through."From Mail on Sunday.
