Re: Prada profit fall "Prada's shares are expensive relative to Jimmy Choo's"Well that's alright then, blood pressure beginning to fall.Games - not bovvered eever really, just prodding the fashion market to edumacate mesen!

Re: Prada profit fall Games,I wouldn't worry, m8. Prada's shares are expensive relative to Jimmy Choo's, and their stuff is expensive too, I believe. JC is relatively underexposed to China, which has hurt Prada hard. Not bothered, me.LKH on the flybridge

Prada profit fall This looks quite nasty. Excellent timing for my purchase last week of CHOO.[link] you can't read it, here is the salient bit :-Prada Profits fell 28% last year as sales were hit in Europe and Asia-Pacific, causing the luxury Italian fashion house to implement cost-cutting measures.Income dropped from €628m to €451m to January 31, missing estimates of €468m. First time Prada reported a drop in annual net profit since listing 4 years ago. Revenue fell 1 % to €3.55bn.Games - Ah well the only way is up eh? -- It is isn't it?

Re: I'm in! Games,"Does it not concern you that 70+% of the company is held by one group JAB which is owned by the Reimann family in Germany (big RB sharholders)."No, actually I LIKE owning shares in family run biznays. I used to own ABF (the Westons), and still own RIT Capital (Jake Rothschild and daughter) and Treatt (used to be the Bovill family till recently), and Renishaw (McMurtry/Deer "family" and Fuller, Smith and Turner (Fullers).Either them Blockheads will eventually want to sell Jimmy Choo (along with Bally and Belstaff and t'other brands they own) to the likes of LVMH or they will want to build it up themselves and keep it. Either way it should do chust fine. There is some risk that JAB may shaft Jimmy Choo on the cost of the central corporate services they provide but, if there is any sign of that, you kin be sure that Lawrence Keith Hyman will be after the scoundrels like a rabid attack labrador."shoes wear out faster than bags, no?"That's very perceptive of you, m8. I think you're right. The proof of the pudding is that, if you put a bag on each foot and carry your shoes over your arm, the bags used as shoes will wear out more quickly than the shoes used as bag."what about the level of debt do you feel that looks OK?"It should run down quite quickly over the next two or three years, helped by the absence of a divi during that time, so, yeah, it's manageable. It seems to me that the market cap at summat around £600m is peanuts compared to its competitors, and yet its image, helped by "Sex and the City" (admittedly a tired old genre now), is every bit as good as its larger competitors, so I see every prospect for a decent if not spectacular return on my modest outlay.LKH on the flybridge

Re: I'm in! LK - I see, well it was late for me to be looking at this. Early mornings are better.Looked over Choo more last night, it looks like it could grow pretty well longer term if it doesn't do a Mulberry. One thing it has on it's side compared to Mulberry is that shoes wear out faster than bags, no?OK my wife has a wardrobe full of bags and shoes so I better to a quick count to test that theory. Stuff's at the middle end of the prices and whilst still technically a rip off it's within reach of a reasonably wide wealthy audience.Does it not concern you that 70+% of the company is held by one group JAB which is owned by the Reimann family in Germany (big RB sharholders). And what about the level of debt do you feel that looks OK?Games

Re: I'm in! Games,"Apart from buying the stock, what did you do there?"Erm, demonstrated my familiarity with a couple of birds' bag brands?OK, yes, pretty lame I grant you.Today? Jimmy Choo? Whither?[link] on the flybridge do shareholders get discounts on them pumps?

Re: I'm in! "Do you see what I did there?"LK - Apart from buying the stock, what did you do there?Games - Choo looks interesting. Studied Mulberry and left it alone. Only other foray into fashion has been Supergroup (bought at £3 and sold at £11 - not been back since)

I'm in! I decided to dip a toe into the recondite world of fashion today and have taken a modest stake in Jimmy Choo ... just under 1% of my shrunken wad, so it's no big deal.It seems to me that the brand has a great image; all of my long string of life coaches have reacted with the appropriate enthusiasm when presented with a pair of Jimmy Choos. Affordable luxury ... that is, apparently, the brand's watchword. Them shoes and handbags seem a darn sight cheaper than a gold Rolex with a diamond bezel, and everyone like a well-turned ankle.I have a lot of time for Bart Becht, the erstwhile Durex legend, who runs the shop for them Benckisers who own most of Jimmy Choo. So I shall be clinging on to his coattails like a demented succubus, in the hope that he can sprinkle some of his faerie dust on my wad. Finally, they have plenty of headroom to grow the brand both in EMEA and, more importantly, in China. There are a lot of ladies in China and they all want to get their daintily bound feet into a pair of smart F me pumps and match 'em up with a nice Riley bag, a snip at only £1395 ... much better value than a Mulberry or a Louis Vuitton bag ... Do you see what I did there? LKH on the flybridge

Income and risk Read the messages up to date with interest. Only just started to look at CHOO as a result of the Telegraph 'Business Insight' article; rather like the look of it as a luxury brand as I failed to invest in Mulberry or Burberry.Following up comment re over-valued market, I agree; combination of international affairs and Greece/EU looks a bit toxic to me, and currently moving some pension funds to cash and indexed gilts. However I do think that the various infrastructure trusts (HICL, John Laing etc) and the REITS offer reasonable value on basis of a rising income and modest risk to capital (on long view very limited risk) but you won't get rich qiuick!

Currently, the price must be viewed as heading to 151 where hopefully a bounce is encountered. It seems to be a relatively new listing and given the trend ..."[link]

Re: ISA buy Sold Centrica slightly higher price but small loss with costs.Stock markets highly overpriced in my view and needs big correction as built on quicksand foundations. Even pensioners gambling their savings as interest rates are rubbish. Airlines, BAE, ITV, insurers, telecoms, housebuilders, etc etc. Supermarkets worthless as shops will have constant lower prices and free £5 vouchers at the likes of Morrisons.
