Re: A few stocks getting a battering Interesting speculation both ways since the update but on the question of declining cards sales are the population not getting olderOlder it is said so as most older people like to browse to purchase physical cards is the question that relevant to CARD?Furthermore sales in general were down over Christmas so has that been fully taken on board?More questions then answers and just my two penny worth.

Re: A few stocks getting a battering What has concerned the market is the fall in card sales as a proportion of the total sales and that this trend could continue.Cards have a much higher profit margin, particularly as many are printed in house than the general bought in gift products etc that make up the rest of sales. At interim EBITDA margin on sales fell 2% from just over 20% to just over 18%.In other words people suspect that card sales are in decline;this trend being general not specific to CARD.The result could be that the company may have difficulties growing the business and maintaining profit per outlet. The recent trading up date seemed to confirm this suspicion.

Dollar Pound [link] Clearly the currency risk has gone as you can buy forward a long way aheadBusiness rates and minimum wage are the other main cost increases which applies to all retail.Final results are due end of March even if we have gone back a bit the trend looks promising, lloyds was being bashed last year financial was out of favour, profit from lloyds in here now, down on this share but optimistic of recovery.[link]

Re: A few stocks getting a battering I don't think CARD has 'high profit margins' but as for the rest of your post I agree. I have freed up more funds but where to come in, that is the question, after having tried four times I'm a bit wary. They did make a good profit just less than last year. I worry about debt. Cut the special if need be, as a long term shareholder I'll take the hit.ATB all W

I've been in a number of CF outlets in the east midlands recently, and they've all been packed with shoppers.
