Tanked This one is really getting drained.Does it look like they made a massive mistake buying into America at such a high price?Looks like John Lee was right to get out when he did.Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here and one that could be applied to other's like BT/EE for example.Games

John Lee Sold his stake.[link] BBA Aviation I reacted much more positively when amber blinked."""""""Then came the announcement of a planned major transformational acquisition of rival group Landmark Aviation for £1.3bn to be financed by debt and a major “rights” issue.""""""""" Commentators were sceptical, concerned by debts levels and the fact that the deal would not be earnings enhancing until 2017. As BBA’s price moved further south I moved to protect my profit by selling out entirely at 283p.""""games

Cheap for a reason? Have the private equity boys stuffed BBA up like a kipper here? The $2bn purchase seems hefty and untimely -- or am I reading this all wrong?Games - Bill Gates will be happy

Re: Balance sheet "buying anything from the likes of Carlyle"Aye -- that is my concern, all sorts of stuff might be hidden by the sharks and why are they selling if it's such a gem?Games -- will be watching for a while and reassess when the next set of financial results come out.

Re: Active board "Alternatively we could meet Milord Lee at the next Treatt AGM"When's the next Treatt AGM (embarrassed that I don't know) - Bury St is less than an hour from me so I'll definitely attend the next one.Games

Re: Active board Games,"Maybe it's be quicker to contact him and meet him for a pint or two in London -you up for that when you are in dry dock?"Provided it's in a Fuller's pub, m8 ... perhaps The Admiralty in Trafalgar Square? An excellent investment on the part of FSTA, of which I am a proud shareholder.Alternatively we could meet Milord Lee at the next Treatt AGM in Bury St Edmunds. Treatt is (or was) his biggest single shareholding (as well as that of your correspondent). LKH on the flybridge

Re: Active board "Mebbe BBA looks after his Bombardier"Not a bad pint as it happens - Charles Wells Brewery.Gates was heavily into GFS but sold out on ethical grounds. If he's into train sets with Bombardier, maybe he's a planes, trains and automobiles man in which case BBA is appropriate?Games - Very curious to know why Lee has this one. Maybe it's be quicker to contact him and meet him for a pint or two in London - you up for that when you are in dry dock?

Re: Active board Games,"It's one of Lee's larger holdings and Bill Gates"Lee, eh? Hmmm. If he's in, I'm sure he will have done his due diligence. It seems a strange investment for Gates. Mebbe BBA looks after his Bombardier (do you see what I did there?) and he's taking the Victor Kiam approach ... liked shaver ...bought company.LKH on the flybridge no position in Botni

Re: Things to note Games,"Creative accounting perhaps?"I haven't looked at the accounts, or indeed at any aspect of the company other than having a sketchy impression of what it does, but, if the cash flow doesn't synch with the reported earnings, I'd be reaching for my hero Terry Smith's book 'Accounting for Growth' in order to bring myself up to speed on the risks associated with the interesting stats you flag up.LKH on the flybridge

gamesinvestor 26 Jul 2015

Things to note Over the last 5 years (2010 to 2014) the company reported rising profits - £100M in 2010 and £162M in 2014, but it wasn't a linear or regular growth. But the operating profits are flat or slightly down at £153M in 2010 and only £151M in 2014, despite the revenue having risen from £1.83Bn to £2.29Bn - a rise of 25%.Something is screwy here in that there is a big mismatch between the reported post tax profits and the operating profits. Also during that same 5 year period, despite no change in operating profits, borrowings rose from £505M to £778M a rise of 54%So unless they are investing very heavily in new growth potential somewhere, (haven't dug deep enough) they are increasing debt yet real income is doing nothing despite 25% revenue growth and a 54% growth in borrowings.Creative accounting perhaps?Games - need to understand why the above before buying into this one - Bill Gates or not.

Re: Active board LK - Good oh! -- It's one of Lee's larger holdings and Bill Gates has been building up a bigger stake of late.I'll do a bit of digging also - debt looks a tad high - need to understand why.Games
