Re: Discontinuation vote So if its good value at a 10% discount is thata) because if it winds up we get approaching a 10% uplift (but no potential future benefit - bear in mind the other smaller cos ITs have suffered recently)b) it is a good trust and so a decent long term buy - so why wind it upSorry but the way you explained your reasoning has confused me a little. Are you just saying you want a quick 10% and then move on?PE

Re: Discontinuation vote Exactly, the article is explaining that the trust is very good value indeed at 10% discount. The vote itself is probably designed to keep the discount in check. The same should apply to all investment trusts with big discounts to net asset values. Wind them up and give the shareholders the right value of their assets. It is a scheme that effectively corrects the market discrepancies.

Re: Discontinuation vote !!!!!Why?

Re: Discontinuation vote At approximately 6% discount I would hope that AGM votes for discontinuation and the trust winds up.

Re: Need to gain 7.5% just to break even SOIyou say..Nothing in this myself but am watching with interest and quite like the company`s concept.Contemplating a buy at some point. As we are in the "phoney war" period with Brexit......ie nowt appenin, as I am sure you know, I would just be a tad wary. For those who haven't known AIF long or follow Uncle Doug religiously, when the first salvo's are fired there is likely to be a market correction and the toddlers will temporarily drop like a stone. That is the point I will top up again from divis received in my portfolio, and reap the benefits when any agreements are finally signed. In this case buy on the rumours and profit on the fact.PE

Re: Need to gain 7.5% just to break even You have not factored in the absence of stamp duty when buying these shares?

PIE-EATER 21 Sep 2016

Re: Need to gain 7.5% just to break even Uncle DougIf you say the bid / offer is 318/320 then the spread is 0.63%. NOT 4% AS YOU STATE....so the other 3.37% reduced that OVERALL to 4.13% . When you start to factor in accounting for a premium of 1.5% (heck, thats large isn't it! HICL currently of the order of 23% premium) then you really are scratching for excuses to justify what you have done.

Re: Sold When dealing with funds like Acorn, you are effectively buying trust in the manager over the longer term. Smaller companies trusts/funds like this are definitely more volatile than the likes of FGT, EDIN, PLI but over longer time frames tend to reward holders with both growth and divis. Rather than sell, I topped up. The reasonably large cash holding from my plan to sell in May on some of my individual holdings and come back this autumn, was rapidly put back in the market....buy limits that I thought were stupidly low were triggered and have resulted in a nice profit since Brexit. Having made a bit on the panic / recovery trade, I may now top slice or sell some individual holdings to build up a cash buffer as I see choppy times in the market ahead - just don't know when.Since 6.7.16, this "Munter" has risen 12.5% and a 4p divi due at the end of next week. Basically the markets have been a lesson in not letting the human emotions of Brexit get in the way of the bigger picture......fundamentals, growth and the desire of the underlying companies to be successful and adapt in order to actually be successful.PE

Re: Discontinuation vote AGM on 26th September has a discontinuation vote. That is why discount appears to have disappeared to allow the continuation of the company. It is an opportunity to sell for those who are not satisfied with the performance of the fund.

Discontinuation vote I have just the news item listed regarding a forthcoming discontinuation vote. Dies anyone know when this will occur and how it will be notified to shareholders?

Need to gain 7.5% just to break even When rest of market rising this is tanking. Why? Say I had 10K to invest here. With bid at 318 and offer at 320 you need to gain 4% just to break even on huge bid/offer gap. Buying and selling costs could account for another 2%. Also consider that they're on a 1.5% premium to NAV then that means in total you would need a 7.5% gain just to break even on any investment here. Can someone explain the attraction here? Am I missing something?
