Re: My 1st buy today of Abcam gamesinvestor,Compensation of buying AIM shares are no stamp (helps makes up for big spread) and no IHT. I would have to look up rules on CGT, used to be different for AIM shares. CGT sadly has not been a problem for me for years as I have not exceeded generous tax exempt limit for ages. I have a few dogs showing big paper losses if ever I needed to offset. Now 73% of my shares in ISA wrapper. ABC bought in dealing account as pays low dividend (so avoid dividend tax) and hopefully will give capital growth. I need to find one or two more AIM shares that are profitable growth companies with low div yield. Do not want to risk blue sky companies as far too risky and have enough dogs.

Re: My 1st buy today of Abcam "Good ROE and ROCE though slightly worryingly a bit lower than the 3 year averages. "R- I assume this slight lowering of the returns is due to the diversification from antibodies, which isn't a big enough market for the growth the company wants to sustain.I hope the diversification into these other areas doesn't become a doworsification (a term labelled by Peter Lynch I think).Still you should be OK as far as the dart board is concerned as this is an AIM stock remember and therefore doesn't qualify until I've had 5 pints, and you'll be pleased to know I rarely drink more than 2 these days.Games -- such a sober and stoical chap that I am!! -- yer right he hears the sound in the background.

My 1st buy today of Abcam One thing I like about this company is the EPIC code is - well - simple as ABC.Fundamentals look OK. Good ROE and ROCE though slightly worryingly a bit lower than the 3 year averages. Forecast normalised EPS growth a respectable 18.3% well above 8.4% 3 year average.Expensive at 33.2% forecast PE. Hope they do not come up with results that disappoint markets as SP would plummet like a balloon hit by one of the darts mentioned in gamesinvestor's post.

Re: Abc Games,Is that with or without the blindfold? Relative to a chart I suspect it would make little difference.Regards,ITDYA, and as for 'occasional old bull', well I think I may have that one nailed myself.... especially after the 6th or 7th.

gamesinvestor 04 Apr 2017

Re: Abc "Charts?"ITDYA - I have a more scientific method, it's a modified dart board with the FTSE 100 on the outer ring (all doubles mind) and the trebles ring represents the FTSE 250.AIM doesn't really come into the equation until I've had 5 pints.Occassionally after the 6th or 7th pint I come up with the occassional old bull!!Games -- served me well I lose money as fast as Woody, but without the fees and the ale is - well it's free innit?

Re: Abc Charts? For every buy signal one 'analyst' finds, another will find a sell. As accurate as tea-leaves IMO. Very short-term (a few days maximum) it might highlight some momentum, i.e. short-term sentiment, but that won't last even one second longer than the next bit of genuine news.Charts? If they are printed on soft, very absorbent paper I can think of one decent use for them.Regards,ITDYA still wondering what really happened the other week; I mean the Trump healthcare thing was in the pipeline although no one knew which way it would go so why sell off a week before?

Abc Look at the stochastic chart, a definite buy.

Re: Results Calls into question the whole point of these elections, if the deep state makes the decisions anyway. The previous clown's policies have public appeal of course but the zombies are in charge now, and they will slowly bankrupt the nation.Games - Go Abcam -- was my timing right? We'll see on Monday -- Oh I forgot, you can't time markets can you !!!

Re: Results Games,"Trump lost, the shares will fly on Monday"Good point, m8. It'll be interestin' to see what happens. If they rise, the recent falls really will be seen to have been due to fears about the Trumpton effect if his damnfool bill (no, I haven't read it) had got through Congress. He's gonna look a bit of a chump if he can't get his tax reform legislation through either.LKH on the flybridge Trump The Art of The Deal .... yeah, right!

Re: Results Games,Your quotation of items 1. to 5. is interesting.I wouldn't worry about the references to contingent consideration and the unwinding of discount factors yadda yadda; this is just the bean counters having a burl at correctly accounting for the additional costs associated with various acquisitions which were dependent on the achievement of various milestones.Having said that, them items are not pukka sentences, as you imply. No verb innit. ... Which is a bit odd. Does no-one in the company read this stuff before it's sent off to the stock exchange? I know that most of 'em are scientists rather than abacus rattlers, but still ...Never mind, eh? It's interestin' to see that, rather like Treatt (which I think you are still kicking yoursen for selling?) ABC is buildin' itself a new shed in Cambridge in which to house its white-coated pointyheads in whom I continue to have the highest confidence. The recent buying by directors, while little more than chump change for 'em, is encouraging, I think.LKH on the flybridge keeping the faith ... antibodies are the future innit though?

Results Just reading these for the first time, kicking myself for not focusing on this company a lot earlier. Oh well.I was a bit surprised to read what looks like an accounting maze of notes that look like they are trying to play games with the numbers -- has anyone else picked through this lot: --1. Constant currency is calculated by applying prior period's actual exchange rates to this period's results. 2. Excluding acquisition and integration costs, the change in fair value of contingent consideration and the initial incremental costs associated with the investment in systems and processes. 3. Excluding acquisition costs, the change in fair value of contingent consideration, amortisation of acquisition-related intangible assets, acquisition integration costs and the initial incremental costs associated with the investment in systems and processes. 4. Excluding acquisition costs, the change in fair value of contingent consideration, unwinding of discount factor on contingent consideration and fees, amortisation of acquisition-related intangible assets, acquisition integration costs and the initial incremental costs associated with the investment in systems and processes. 5. Excluding acquisition and integration costs, the initial incremental costs of system and process improvements, unwinding of discount factor on contingent consideration and fees, the change in fair value of contingent consideration, amortisation of acquisition-related intangible assets and the tax effect of adjusting items. See Notes 7 and 13 for detailed reconciliations between reported and adjusted measures.Haven't yet attempted 7-13, the first 5 seemed pretty convoluted in themselves. What is "contingent consideration" ?"unwinding of the discount factor" ?"initial incremental costs"? "change in fair value of contingent consideration"?I wonder if the other company in Cambridge, "Autonomy" confused their accounting to such an extent that they duped HP into paying a shed more than the subsequently discovered real value of the company?Games -- OK, time to carry on reading!
