Back Below 1500 Gamesinvestor1: There are far better places for your cash IMHO I look at it differently. GSK - 6th best FTSE 100 performer in 2018. 19.04% total return. Long may the returns continue.

Back Below 1500 Lawson 76, I have just bought into GSK basically 1 I had no holding in pharm companies & 2, The proposed joint venture with the American pharm giant, into a separate holding company looks as if it should help lift the Company.

Back Below 1500 Not sure about that, with mounting debt, over paying for companies with no guarantee of a secure return. Offloading cash cows to invest in R&D with limited compound success rates. There are far better places for your cash IMHO Games

Back Below 1500 Good dividend this week. Worth investing in this company for the long term

Back Below 1500 Well it didn’t take long, although the FED rate hike is probably as responsible. Should have sold my daughter’s holding yesterday – oh well. I wonder what Woody is thinking, as he watches his 3 funds shrink by the day with the ongoing redemptions. Games

Good time to sell perhaps? Correct, 90% of the time selling is not a great idea, however, when the direction of the company and the finances start to get out of hand and/or the financial reporting is dubious it’s best to leave the party. Few companies are upfront and clean in their reporting. I consider AZN and GSK to be among the poorer end of the spectrum with many many one off costs that are no longer one offs. I’m also reluctant now to invest in big pharma because the success rate on the compounds is so low and the costs to develop them have ballooned. My last big pharma was Shire which I just sold because of the Takeda deal. I only own Advanced Medical and Alliance Pharma now. Games

Good time to sell perhaps? Whatever some on this board like to pretend, timing is very difficult to get right. Personally, I sell only infrequently as it adds costs and there is no guarantee that I will time it right. I tend not to worry too much about share price fluctuation. More important is the flow of dividends which are reinvested and then through compounding reliably produce more of the same every year. That is not to say that I never sell out as I did with supermarkets and Serco when I lost confidence in them. Cheers, Frog in a tree

Good time to sell perhaps? Frog, Sadly the same can’t be said for some of the other stuff aaahhh !! Games

Good time to sell perhaps? Looks like you sold well ahead of today’s price. Well done. Frog in a tree

Gamesinvestor1 19 Dec 2018

Good time to sell perhaps? Frog, No m8, I sold out at 1722 on the 17th Jun 2017 for my main holding. It was about 6% of my wad at the time. I sold some for my son at 1694 in the same month. The reason I maintained an interest is because I have still some in my daughter’s account which was bought at 1667 so I’m pondering when to get rid of it, probably soonish. Games

Good time to sell perhaps? So have you sold out of GSK this morning Games? Frog in a tree

Good time to sell perhaps? Uncle_Doug: Great long term hold forever, 80p divvies every year. ““Great long term hold forever, 80p divvies every year.”” The divi hasn’t increased for years and is going to be under threat if this cash drain continues. games

Good time to sell perhaps? Indeed, a good time to sell while the euphoria has set in. It’s another £1.2bn cost to GSK shareholders after the £5+bn cash used on Tesaro which seems to offer dubious value and is under huge competitive risk. Games

Uncle_Doug 19 Dec 2018

Good time to sell perhaps? Why sell at 1550p? It’s been a good year for the SP which started at abt 1353. Great long term hold forever, 80p divvies every year. They were 1645p just two weeks ago. Tesaro will start earning next year. Merging Pfizer and GSK, two global pharma companies, will provide huge economies of scale and synergies (i.e. job cuts). Shareholders will be rewarded. In other news - Brexit will be resolved one way or another. Stock piling drugs if “no deal” or economy bounce if “withdrawal deal” agreed or 2nd ref. It’s a win-win. Loads of reasons to stay put.

frog_in_a_tree 19 Dec 2018

Good time to sell perhaps? The market has reacted positively with the shares up over 7%. Cheers Frog in a tree
