Re: FAO Davala "then 5% from a share is good"It is if you aren't loosing capital, just getting icome. It's like when you find you are getting a super high income rate, but you've lost the equivilent of 5 years of it in capital depreciation. For some that stings, for others not so much.I'm down 5% on my last purchase of LLOY, not enough to bother me, but I will add more. Ideally under 60p. I'm content to see what the dogs days of summer bring.Or just do nothing. If we just hover around here. I also own AV, but I only ever buy that when the market is really down, as AV always over reacts. That over reaction can give you a nice deal.Still attracted to UK stocks, but you get the impression big investors are getting a little disheartned with Europe, there might be more to come yet in the US, so I'm also keeping an eye on European IT's in case something good comes along at a reasonable price.10% activity/90% frustratingly waiting around, that's a contrarians lot in life.DL

Re: FAO Davala But when you are getting 1.3% from a Building Society-then 5% from a share is good, as long as the share stays steady. Its Aviva dividends re invested , a lot below £4 that enhance the return.Lloyds are sticking in a small spread at the moment

FAO Davala LLOYDS!Lloyds is actually turning out to be the next Aviva in my portfollio (good div going nowhere).Lets face it ,most of the big caps are just utilities, good div payers but going nowhere. If AV. was a little orphan freezing in the snow on Christmas day crying out for help and I saw it.I would run over and boot it in the face.................

Dividends or Capital growth. Hard to get both Although Aviva's share price has remained unexciting, the average 4.7% average dividend yield over the last 15 years ( Per the Mottley Fool), if reinvested in Aviva, would have added 70% to the value of your holding. The thing is, you cant have it all. At least with Aviva, you can choose to reinvest your generous Dividends. Some of you want it all- large dividends and large increases in the share price.I think you have to take both together.I was fortunate in deciding to invest around £3, and have reinvested my dividends, but not now as the price seems high. My original £22,000 is now worth £47000. One of my better ones ( Dont mention Lloyds!)

Re: Share buyback - future dividends The buybacks are being cancelled, so, so long as the dividend pot is maintained, the dps should increase.

cavebear 12 May 2018

Share buyback - future dividends Given the reduction in the number of shares, is it fair to assume that even with no monetary increase in overall dividend payment, the dividend per share increases proportionately? Or is overall dividend payment actually reduced, thus maintaining DPS?
