Re: India Graphite Demand Fascinating, if an unrealistic timescale. There'll be virtuall no sales this year. That means 1m EV cars to be manufactured and sold in India next year??Still, a good aim, and I agree, good for Tirupati.

Another MOU for oz graphite peer [link] Resources secures access to Japan-Korea battery marketFebruary 2, 2016Emerging graphite and battery market supplier Kibaran Resources has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese commodities trader Sojitz Corporation (Sojitz), one of Japan’s largest trading companies and one of that country’s largest flake graphite trader. The graphite from the Epanko graphite project is of superior quality and suitable for all downstream graphite uses, including the production of expandable graphiteThe graphite from the Epanko graphite project is of superior quality and suitable for all downstream graphite usesThe signing is Kibaran’s second expansion into international graphite markets, following its binding 10-year 30 000 tpa offtake deals last year with European customers including German global industrial conglomerate ThyssenKrupp Metallurgical Products .The Sojitz MoU is expected to consume a large portion of Kibaran's remaining initial 10 000tpa of graphite production.Given Sojitz’s market leadership, the MoU is a milestone for Kibaran in light of the growing demand in the global hi-tech battery market for energy storage systems and electric vehicles.MoU specificsThe MoU centres around the trader’s sales and marketing of Kibaran’s high purity natural flake graphite concentrate from Epanko – one of three graphite projects Kibaran is developing in Tanzania as a globally focused graphite mining and processing hub.Kibaran Resources' Epanko project is located in TanzaniaThe MOU lays the groundwork for further commercial negotiations, but does not compel either party to enter into further commercial arrangements. An in-principal agreement has been reached in the MOU that if a binding agreement is negotiated Sojitz will only source graphite in Tanzania from Kibaran and will be the sole purchaser and distributer of graphite concentrate originating from the Epanko project for the following markets and territories:Lithium ion battery anode producers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and the United States;Refractory grade graphite in Japan and Taiwan; andThe lubricant and building materials chain in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. The MOU follows detailed due diligence by Sojitz and the completion by Kibaran in August 2015 of a specific and favourable scoping study into establishing a battery grade spherical graphite manufacturing plant in Tanzania within 12-18 months of the company commencing graphite production at Epanko. The MOU sets out that Sojitz will undertake further testing. The battery plant study was in addition to Kibaran’s then just completed robust bankable feasibility study for Epanko.Kibaran said the results of the battery plant scoping study, had since attracted interest from several potential international stakeholders with testwork confirming Epanko’s graphite mineralisation to be of ultra-high quality and exceptionally well suited for the production of spherical graphite for the battery market.“We are delighted to partner Kibaran, given our testwork has shown Epanko’s graphite to have superior qualities to its peers and at a time market demand is looking for a new supply of natural graphite outside of existing supply chains,” says Sojitz assistant general manager Togo Teruhiko.Kibaran MD Andrew Spinks commented: “ The Sojitz MoU is a major milestone for the company, providing Kibaran with additional independent endorsement of the quality and commercial appeal of our Epanko natural flake graphite.“This MOU not only supports the development of Epanko but also advances Kibaran’s plans to manufacture spherical graphite, expandable graphite and other value added products for a broad range of industrial applications with forecast significant growth rates,” he said.

Share price Well, I've raised our stake noticeably, with no effect as yet. The price can go up now, thank you, Mars, unless you're the short seller I can distinguish (although I do appreciate your news posts)!I don't want any more dilution to Bass.

Graphite to shine 2016 Lithium, graphite and potash to shine in 2016 as battery storage, electric car demand grows along with foodABC News 13 Jan 2016The price of lithium has surged on the back of growing global demand for high-tech devices, storage batteries and electric cars.Lithium Australia recently took advantage of the positive sentiment by completing a $6.55 million share placement during one of the worst weeks in trading history. It is a stark contrast to a major price drop in key bulk mineral commodities like coal and iron ore.Managing director Adrian Griffin says the demand for lithium will only grow, especially for lithium-ion batteries."I think we're talking about a paradigm shift in the way people think about power," Mr Griffin said."That means renewables (renewable energy) and it means a move to portable power, and it doesn't matter if it's your laptop, your mobile phone, your car, or even your city."The types of power being generated in the future are going to require storage and lithium gives you the ability to store that power."Adrian Griffin said lithium is traded as either a carbonate or a hydroxide, and the market is hungry for both."The lithium carbonate spot price at the moment about $US10,000 (AUD$14,362) a tonne and the spot price for lithium hydroxide is about $US14,000 ($20,110) a tonne," he said."Both those commodities have had a very significant price rise late in 2015."If you take lithium carbonate as the benchmark, it was trading low $US7,000 ($10,054) early December and closed December at $US10,000 ($14,362)."Lithium Australia has potential projects in Australia, Mexico and the United States.Graphite price steadies but demand expected to continueAlso being buoyed by the demand for modern storage batteries is the abundant commodity graphite.Want Rural news delivered to your inbox?Subscribe to our daily Rural newsletter for the national headlines of the day.One local company that has what it believes to be a bankable deposit of graphite at its Caroona deposit in South Australia is Archer Exploration.Managing director Gerard Anderson says graphite is an essential component in lithium-ion batteries."We're able to produce very high purity graphite concentrates, grading in excess of 99 per cent carbon," Mr Anderson said.Archer Exploration has also conducted research with the University of Adelaide to use graphite from Caroona to produce graphene."Graphene is a single-atom thick layer of graphite," he explained."That opens up tremendous opportunities, particularly in the electronics business."That would primarily be used in things like lithium-ion batteries, high quality lubricants, high quality super capacitors, photovoltaic cells, inks and other products."So whilst it's still very much in the research phase, it's indicates there are enormous potential markets for graphene."Gerard Anderson believes the price of graphite has peaked for now, but it is dependent on grade and quality."The peak of the graphite price was around 2014 and in 2015 there were quite a number of new entrants (into the market)," he said."It's a business where there are barriers to entry and not all graphite projects will be developed."Only those that have significant competitive and comparative advantage that will get under production, so although graphite is relatively abundant there's only been a small number of projects outside of China that have been developed over the last few decades."Graphite is selling for $US600 ($862) a tonne at the moment, and then you've got flake graphite which sells for around $US1,200 to $US1,300."
