Sell in May? Funds and trusts to consider dumping "Private equity investments are certainly flavour of the month at present," says Moyes. He has singled out F&C Private Equity Investment Trust (FPEO) for selling in May, because "emotions run high in the highly volatile world of private equity investing, with share price performance flipping between euphoria and despair".Moyes argues that while the management team have done well to lower financing costs, and de-risking the proposition following the fallout from the global financial crisis, "share price performance has surged ahead of underlying asset value, with the shares now trading on a premium, euphoria appears to be setting in".DL

300p I suspect my 300p target is going to come up faster than I expected.Thin trading in August is going to amplify any sell off or early bargain hunters.I'm going to bide my time.DL

IC "the Income portfolio sold F&C Private Equity (FPEO) and used some of the proceeds to introduce Regional Reit (RGL)"i wonder if that's what's driven today sell off.I'm glad I was holding out for a low price. Looks as if Baron thinks there is better value around.DL

Re: 205 Found it: Baron bought some around 290-300pBackend/start '16/17I'm going to hold out for a blip and pick some up around that. That may not happen quickly or then again possibly "in the next 6 months". - if I'm permitted to steal from Comrade Jez, after all he has no scuples in stealing from me. Re: Why the drop? Agreed. Another of mine PEY also seemed to be defying gravity but back a bit now. European so no obvious impact by GE.

Re: Why the drop? Don't forget the small and smaller mid caps have shown the best performance since June last ear, especially this calendar year....time for a correction, even more so with ex FBI chief giving evidence tomorrow against Trump and our election and imminent Brexit negotiations getting started properly. FTSE 100 held up well so far as majority of earnings overseas......smaller caps much less liquid so more volatile

Re: Why the drop? Isn't it just an excuse for the marketmakers to mark the sp down after such a good run and create business for themselves, this trust is mainly invested across the channel.Pi

Re: Why the drop? Hi StrapukOK thanks for that - indeed looks like the private equity and small cap trusts are getting it in the neck in that case for now. I also have Electra (private equity) and that one is "only" down 1% today Should bounce back if Tories get in !

Re: Why the drop? Good point Stepenwolf. I picked up the Corbyn thing as a general reason for quite a few ITs dropping today. From CityWire I think. Yes, link:[link]

Stepenwolf 06 Jun 2017

Re: Why the drop? Hi Strapuk and DonIf the market is getting jitters about Corbyn, why is it just this fund that gets hit by 6% whilst the ftse100 is down only 0.01% and the ftse250 only 1.08% - I suspect something else is going on that we are not generally aware of (yet)

Re: Why the drop? Latest opinion poll puts Labour 40% Conservatives 41%, so possibility of Corbyn as PM proppedup by the Scottish N@zis. A truly horrendous prospect.

Windlesham Don 06 Jun 2017

Why the drop? Anyone know why the big fall today?I've been a holder for a while and they have done spectacularly well for me, but an 8% drop as I write should be down to some 'event'. I haven't found anything as yet...

Re: Reasonable results Agree. I have been invested here many years and like the divi as well as the long term private equity exposure which always delivers - I have invested here and other PE ITs and they are among my best performers over the 5-10yr horizonAlso small holding in PPE which I bought before brexit - so happy with the currency boost. But what now? Is PPE still a good buy at these exchange rates? One day it will reverse.
