The Petition is gaining support Apologies for board hopping but-The petition is going quite well; ~4400 signatures so far. Although it really needs a turbo boost.[link] petition was stalled in parliament since 12th Aug 15; finally green lit on 12th feb 2016.The FCA don't even reply on the matter, now is your chance to have your say.If you hate seeing buys reported as sells etc!!!!!!Has already been sent to Martin Lewis, Daily Mail, Moneyweek & Watchdog. My local MP supported this petition by writing to the petitions committee to help un-stall it.There’s 650 MP’s in Westminster, So have you written to your MP? 649 to go!If this petition doesn’t reach 10,000; then imo we might as well have not bothered as it will almost certainly be filed B1N; @ 10,000 the government should respond. We are currently getting approx. 100 new signatures a week, but need 3x that amount to reach the target with only 15 weeks to go.At 5000 I will send this to the PM & the chancellor as well as my MP again. So – If you haven’t yet signed or indeed have but haven’t passed it on to others, then now’s the time to do so. If each person who has signed can get just one other person to sign then we will double the total immediately. I have posted to all aim listed gas n oilies, currently doing the footsy 100. But I can only do so much to push this. Really need you guys & gals to help. Thanks to all who have signed so far.We really need a social / media savvy individual to help generate more interest in this.

Re: Was it luck? A 5% yield may be available again if wider markets head lower, however the yield needs to be viewed in the context of ZIRP and now increasinglynegative rates in multiple countries.Looking through the recent results in more detail they look very impressive IMV.BATS have effectively ruled out another big deal over the medium term,so following maintaining the Reynolds stake and a couple of smaller acquisitions last year, the focus is more likely to be on debt reduction.2/3 years of debt reduction then opens up the prospect of restarting the buy back.Longer term Tobacco may be in decline, however if the cashflows allow a significantreduction in the share count that will more than compensate - just my take.Hopefully an opportunity to add a few lower down.

Reynolds American [link] BATS do it do you think? They already own 42% of the company, having upped their stake to maintain this level when Reynolds acquired Lorillard. It looks a strong rumour, as Reynolds share price went up last week, while Imperial Tobacco shares fell back.Games -- hope so, I sold BATS and kept IMT and Reynolds

Re: Smoking decline I still think this is a hold for the yield, but like similar stocks (mainly utilities) it won't make any of us rich. Not sure I share the worry about litigation, yes the lobbyists will keep trying but it's not as if potential smokers aren't forewarned (in so many ways) that this is a habit that will potentially kill you. The leagacy claims from the days when no such warnings existed will, like asbestos claims, eventually die off. Harsh, but true..I do think we will drift down to a core percentage of smokers worldwide, the habit will never fall away completely. This fits in nicely with any unethical prortfolio of booze, fags, gambling, drugs, and weapons. They will always be there so huge losses are all but impossible.

Smoking decline [link] article, probably nothing you may not already know, but it does highlight the variety of reasons for the decline in smoking since the 70's.One thing that nags me and one of my reasons for dropping investment in this industry from 11% of my portfolio to 7% now, is the ever impending threat of a litigation that ultimately sticks. So far the lobbyists seem to have maintained a lot of strength in resisting court decisions and the impact of very large fines (successfully contested) by the industry. Will that ultimately fail, and will the taxes and -ve social stigma of smoking eventually kill off this industry? The tough thing is finding solid investments that replace the success of all of these tobacco stocks over the last 5 years, but maybe the debt loads and gearing of all these companies through costly acquisitions fueled by increasing debt will take it's toll in the next 5 years?Games - Out of BATS, still in IMT and Reynolds
