Value opportunity? I’ve been watching Aviva for some time and I think I’ll be taking the plunge now and stocking up. It’s still rocky but as a longer term play I’m happy with how cheap this is looking right now. For me it’s rare to see such a strong balance sheet for so cheap. I’m not too bothered trying to time the price, I’ll be buying in today.

First of many? Insurance Age – 25 Apr 19 Experts predict further changes at Aviva following Briggs' exit - Insurance Age Brokers were unconcerned about the UK CEO of Insurance leaving the provider and have faith in group CEO Maurice Tulloch but more management "shuffling" is Predicting more management chops and changes I’m hoping it’s quick and the pain doesn’t last!

Aviva plc 2018 preliminary results announcement Yippee! A discussion on these otherwise moribund boards. Point is that the change is a bit more than just “paying out what they can afford”. Previously there was a target (nothing binding about that of course) to pay out 55% - 60% of EPS. Now they give themselves wiggle room to do…well, whatever they like. Aviva admits that “future percentage growth rates will be more modest than those in the recent past.” Given current yield, + inflation would be okay, but they have the flexibility now to decide for example that more buybacks would, in their infinite wisdom, be better for shareholders and reduce dividends. Anyway, remains a hold for me.

Aviva plc 2018 preliminary results announcement P.s. I agree with share buy backs. In my experience they almost always destroy shareholder value.

Aviva plc 2018 preliminary results announcement Aviva has released the devastating news that it will only pay as much dividend as it can afford. Blimey, I didn’t find that too much of a revelation. But seriously, and not knocking your post, to me it indicates that from now on the divi is only likely to grow in line with inflation. I think that’ll do nicely, starting from a 7% base. How likely is it that Aviva will do better? Fund management is mostly dependent on the markets, when they fall, so do fees. General Insurance is in a gentle down cycle, but will probably remain flattish. Life expectancy will flatten. Bulk annuity will be OK for a bit. So Aviva needs to push on in developing markets. I’ve bought the shares as an annuity; nothing more nor less. I’m not expecting above inflation growth. A strong Hold for me.

Aviva plc 2018 preliminary results announcement Aviva seem unable to help themselves in messing around with their dividend policy. This share has performed very poorly measured over virtually any time period. Recently, its strong dividend yield was one of the few bright spots as competitors like Prudential and L&G left Aviva languishing in the doldrums. Aviva has form here having slashed its dividend several years ago, and now again they have kicked away the crutch by announcing a “more progressive dividend policy” for which read that management want the ability not to operate under an expectation that dividends will increase (in line with profits perhaps) or worse that they might actually cut the dividend if they feel like it. The recent share buy back showed itself to be of no value to investors - a squandered opportunity to make a decent capital return to investors. Instead the share price has fallen by a meaningful amount since the buyback was announced. Not a good cocktail.

Aviva plc 2018 preliminary results announcement I added to my holding in Aviva today (down already!). In my opinion the results were unexciting, but frankly what does anyone expect from an insurance and fund management business? I bought based on low price and huge yield. It’ll do for me. Professional punters are bailing out.
